Bought 2008 Freelander a couple hours ago | |
Hello from New Zealand. It's been a busy car day. Sold my collectible 2004 Jaguar XJ6 around noon, and on the same site (Trade-Me) up popped a 2008 LR Freelander in Tonga Green the same time. Most comparable listings are around NZ$10K, but this one was $4.5K. 152,000 KM. clean body and interior. Called the owner - a young mum who replaced it with a CR-V to get better mileage. The car was located near the Jag buyer, so I drove down, test drove, left the Jag for collection and drove home with the LR.
It had a check engine light which gave a PO171 error on both banks. Funny, it was the same code my Jag had when I bought it in 2020. MAF, O2 sensor or vacuum leak (Jag was MAF and unplugged hose). So she dropped the price to $3,800.
It was a Japanese Domestic Model that entered NZ in 2012, and it does not have a tow bar. Interior looks exceptionally clean, and the headliner has buttons where it looks like someone did a very interesting repair.
The car failed its WOF inspection (like a MOT) on heavy steering which seems to be common. I'll start with the filter, but am prepared to replace the pump, rack or whatever.
The rear boot opening is broken. She backed into something, so her dad opens it using the wind screen wiper blade. Not sure what is needed there.
Then I have one of the world's best welders who will make me a custom full length aluminium roof rack as this will become a farm truck collecting timber from the building yard. I'm going to copy the design off my 1982 Mercedes G Wagon which was their expedition model rack when the 4x4 was new. You can carry an elephant on it.
If there any suggestions of what should be looked at with 150,000 km just due to age and distance, I appreciate the advice. First will be fluids.
