Alarms

The car is in the garage about the locks and alarm. I find it hard to believe that the alarm can not be just chopped off. Kids nowadays hack in to the government systems etc yet a freelander alarm can not be chopped off. We have not been locking the car for ages as it was hassle with the alarm going off, it’s just a problem if we go into a city etc not being able to lock it. As one mechanic said who in their right mind is going to nick it.

usual cuplrit for alarm going off is the bonnet sensor - on right hand side just behind the little white/black box crash sensor. the micro switch goes and triggers the alarm. At the Right hand bonnet catch/latch
Easy solution is just to bridge the terminals and solves this - both mine have been sorted this way. Solved the issues and locks work properly again
That is as long as the door locks etc are working properly.... another story 2011 SD4 HSE Auto Ipanema Sand - and behaving like a mad cow!

I have to rely on what a garage will do as mechanical skills I have not. Wash and polish is about my limit.

This is really a simple fix.. I mended ours last week after months of annoying alarms. As Dino said it is highly likely to be the bonnet switch which is mounted on drivers side bonnet catch. A simple repair is to cut a paper clip in half so it is a small u shape bend of metal. Disconnect the electric plug from the back of the bonnet switch and place the u shaped metal bend into the electrical connections of the plug to essentially create a permanent connection.. leave the wire hanging and job done.. no more alarms..

If you want a permanent fix take it to a garage and ask them to replace the offside bonnet catch..

It is the micro switch inside the catch that has failed and keeps giving an open circuit which in turn triggers the alarm!

Thanks for information, but I would never in a million years do anything on a car as it always goes wrong. I left it at the garage, just find it hard that a thief can bypass all security stuff but we can’t. I only need the lock to work, nobody takes any notice of an alarm unless it’s disturbing them really bad. A holiday home near us had the alarm and lights going for weeks, nobody did anything, probably didn’t know who it belongs too.
