United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Fuji White
Fake Parts -- Boxed and Labelled

A warning not to buy parts from unknown sources.

AND

A reason why it is best to only swap parts one at a time and check directly afterwards that they have cleared the fault or at least are working correctly.

Please do not just keep renewing/swapping parts without checking as you could be introducing duff parts into the system.

I have found it best to fully look at what is working correctly, as well as what is failing. Only then chasing one fault at a time, checking each time something is changed or adjusted, and not leaving introduced unknown bits in the system. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

In Canada (slight topic variation, apologies) insurance companies are asking body/repair shops to use used parts from scrap/wrecker yards. Even used wheel bearings, for example.
And yes, there are a lot of counterfeiting of brands out there.

How can they possibly do that? Don’t they have to warranty their repairs in Canada? Most western world insurance companies do.

I appreciate that car manufacturers stop supplying new parts even earlier in a vehicles life these days, & lack of new parts is often what makes repairs economically/practically unviable. (Now Sold). 2008 Freelander 2 (Nazca Sand) SE TD4 Auto. I have a very good acquaintance that owns a body shop and most definitely they are instructed to source used parts by the insurance company, including bearings from wreckers. I am very serious and I believe that the insurance companies are gambling that some of those parts will outlast the current ownership of those vehicles. At the day's end, insurance companies are all about profit even if they can't write off a vehicle and recover costs from the scrap value. Lots of cars are being written off for insurance purposes, many with tons of salvagable parts.
