Active travel is not a good - it is discriminatory at best and suicidal at worst.

We live in a country that rains 90% of the time (well it doe sin Manchester) - why would you walk or ride a bike.

I have a metal knee that means cycling is not an option - not enough articulation, and the other knee is riddled with arthritis so walking is as much fun as a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
No problem pay £520 PA road fund license and let the council blockade roads or narrow down dual carriageways for those who want to cycle. Those that don't want to cycle - force them. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Mm. I'm not feeling that smug, with my i6, honest! After all, I do pay full Vehicle Excise Tax on it.

I guess i6 values will go up now. They only sold 564 here in the UK.

Even better, the only diversion route for the Avonmouth Bridge wil put you into the ULEZ deliberately. They were unable to justify the cost of setting it all up unless they included the Cumberland Basin in the scheme which happens to be the most westerly route for none motorway traffic across the Avon not including Brunel’s masterpiece, the Clifton Suspension Bridge which doesn’t do heavy traffic.

BossBob is right but it seems that the Zone Cameras will be turned off on a specific route to allow you to avoid fines.

So, in case you are diverted on your way to your holidays, I have linked to the instructions, so you can memorise them.

There may be a slight problem, I am not sure as this diversion is via an already heavily used and congested route, and although I grew up in Bristol, I do not fully understand the route (after the Portway) and would most likely get caught by some camera that was not switched off.

PS if you come off the M5 motorway and don't fancy getting stuck in Bristol, there is a good choice of even worst hold ups in the local lanes and villages. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 76k+ miles) (MY2015)

3 or 4 choices. The Clannage and Roundham Hill to Gordano. Clarken Coombe to Clevedon. A370 Long Ashton bypass to Weston-Super-Mud (sorry Mare). A38 to Highbridge. There are few passing places on any of these routes and they all go through villages with low speed limits and all have money machines and camera van parking spots.
Yes, the Portway and Cumberland Basin are heavily used and much more like a car park. I’ve had walkers pass me and disappear up the road never to be overtaken, the traffic move so slowly. It’s nice in the Autumn though as it passes through the Avon Gorge and the colours of the woods change daily.
If you feel like taking the M4/M32 just be aware that the Bristol end of the M32 puts you into the ULEZ and that Bristol never finished the outer circuit road properly so it dumps you on the A4 between Brislington and Keynsham and the route to the A38 south is pretty congested most of the time.

As expected, after a very extensive public consultation of just nine weeks the Mayors proposals are to be made official. Although I filled out the online consultation I don’t recall receiving any notification about it, just an email from a colleague at work. In the circumstances not sure exactly how many people would have even been aware of said consultation.
So a scrappage scheme is to be introduced. Is it any help to me? Sole trader - no. Micro business - no. Charity - no. Disabled - no. Lower income (unlikely to include retired people) - so assume no.
Screwed - looks like it

Update - They’ve just said on local news that 60% of those that responded to the consultation were against the expansion plans - so that’s how democracy works Rolling with laughter

A lot of people are going to have to sell their perfectly good older cars - diesel Freelander 2s included - in order to buy something they can drive toll free.
I'd be livid if I lived or travelled in the affected area. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Don’t offer to drop off or pickup anyone from Heathrow either as that is included in the ULEZ!

Almost all have the option to avoid toll roads, they may be included on updates. Regards
