Windscreen hit

Coming home on M6 on Friday my windscreen got hit by a thrown up stone.
B——- fright I got.
Anyway I have a very small chip now.
What’s the advice please?
Try for a new windscreen or one of the windscreen chip repairers.
Anybody had a small chip repaired. Jim A

If its only a small chip I'd be happy to have it repaired, as long ss it's not in immediate line of sight. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

When I had company cars I had chips repaired three or four times on very nice spec BMW and Audi cars , as the fleet only had third party insurance . There was no detriment to the windscreen , I couldn’t see the repairs . I’ve just had a new windscreen put in a Suzuki Swift , using Autoglass who are the insurer’s recommended repairer , it was £20 excess for a repair , £90 for a new screen. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

The chip is way down in the corner of passenger side.
I cannot even see it from the drivers side
After Easter I will make enquiries.
Thanks for the advice. Jim A

As your motor is 2010 and IF it's the original screen,
then it may have many scratches, minor chips and possibly delamination,
which may well point to a new screen. DAVE.

Dave, yes I think it is the original screen.
Screen is quite clear and no further marks or deep scratches I can find.
Have found a reasonable local repairer in Renfrew and will phone him tomorrow.
Repairer only with good reviews.
Thanks for the input. Jim A

The original screen will be marked LandRover Pilkington, and aftermarket screen won't.
My i6 HSE has an original screen.
My 2.2 TD4 SE doesn't.

You can buy kits to repair them yourself.

I had a stone chip in my windscreen. Thought nothing of it, really. But decided to get one of those DIY kits and had a go at repairing it myself. It looked great - you really had to strain your eyes to see the repair. However, it wasn't until winter that I found I'd lost the heated screen function. I bought a genuine NOS Land Rover heated screen off Ebay and had a local fitter sort it for me.
Yes, I could've gone through the insurance "for free"- but there's always a catch, like loading you'r premium next renewal. So, for £160 all in, I decided to keep insurance out of it.

All I can say is don't leave it too long before getting a repair - dirt can enter the crack and can't be removed and then the repair won't be invisible.

Guess how I know this. Jules

Previous car had a stone chip out the way but was pretty big but didn't get larger. After many years got the windscreen replaced, within a month got 2 new stone chips fairly in field of view, typical. They didn't get bigger & just lived with them. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
