I used a rover 213 as a company car.
The 213 had a bombproof Honda engine, it never missed a beat.

The 216 was Rovers own engine which was another matter altogether Big Cry Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

My favourite from your list is the Velocette 350.
If only you knew then, you'd probably still have it today! Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Zermatt Silver

Ford Anglia - 1200cc
Morris 1100 - the worst car I have owned.
Citroen 2CV - it would go anywhere in the snow, amazing little car.
Lada - 1400cc ? Rolling Eyes
Pugeot 105 - even smaller than the 2cv but nowwhere near as interesting.
Saab 99 - built like a brick ****house, could pass most things except a filling station.
Fiat Miraffiori 1600CC tc - went like **** of a stick even towing a trailer tent.
Fiat Reggata - or should I say regretta
Ford Fiesta 1100cc - boring but nice metalic green colour
Ford Fiesta XR2 - red & not boring
VW Golf MK3 Driver - One of my favourites
VW Golf Mk3 2.0l Estate - quciker than the previous car but a bit bland
Honda HRV - was never comfortable driving this I still don't know why
Freelander 1 petrol, 3 door - bought on a whim I was looking for golf diesel at the time !
Audi A3 1.9d Sport - Realy enjoyed driving this.
Ford Focus 2.0 TDI Titanium - As good to drive as the Audi and just as quick
Freelander 2 SE - put a smile on my face everytime I got in but now gone for financial reasons Sad
Ford Focus Zetec 1600 nice & steady suits my increasing age Sad What if there were no hypothetical situations?

I had that S Series 1.6 engine in a Montego. It never missed a beat from 0 to about 95,000 miles until the first fuel pump died, after which it developed an appetite for fuel pumps! It did, however, struggle to keep its oil on the inside from worryingly early on, with the happy consequence that the engine bay was the only part of the car that didn't rust Rolling Eyes

As for my cars pre Freelander?

Volvo V70 No 3 & Cooper S - MINI replaced with Focus RS Mk2 (Volvo very worthy, Cooper S and RS both huge fun)
Volvo V70 No 2 & Cooper (Cooper very nice, but a bit slow. How can 115bhp be so slow?)
Volvo V70 No 1 & Cooper
Citroen C5 estate (The most unreliable car I've ever owned!)
Citroen XM estate No 3 2.5TD (The best estate car I've ever had - I still occasionally dream about still having one)
Citroen XM estate No 2 2.5TD (The other best estate car I've ever had!)
Peugeot 406 estate 2.1TD (Very worthy, very nice, but a bit Marks & Spencer)
Peugeot 405 estate 1.9 D (The worst car I've ever had. I hated that car with a passion!)
Peugeot 405 estate 1.9 D (Which was 9 days old when it was spectacularly written off!)
Citroen XM estate No 1 2.0i (The beginning of a Trilogy of XM's. I loved it, but a bit underpowered)
Montego estate 2.0 HL (Great car, hugely under rated)
Austin Montego estate 1.6HL (good car, but dog slow!) & Ford Transit 2.0 petrol (Super dog slow and 20-22 mpg Shocked )
Bedford Astramax 1.6 petrol (Never, ever, did 90 bhp seem so fast)
Nissan Sunny van 1.3 petrol (not a proud moment, but it was definitely NOT my choice!)
Renault 16TL (Old and rusty, with a brush paint job in Russet Brown. Yuck! Written off by a very thoughtful BT Land Rover)
FIAT 126 Deville with 20-something bhp Shocked (Huge fun and extremely dangerous Very Happy )

Motorbikes?

Triumph Daytona 1200 SE (1998 to date. Very nice with great presence)
Triumph 900 Sprint (1995 to date. The best motorcycle I've ever owned)
Suzuki GS650 Katana (1985-1988. Massively disappointing. Overweight, clumsy, thinest paint that I have ever seen on a motorbike! Looked nice, but that was it. Wish I'd gone the whole hog and bought a proper Katana!)
Suzuki GSX400F (1984-1985. Very nice, my first proper motorbike. Quick and comfy and a proper long distance bike. Should have kept it.)
Suzuki GT200X5 (1983-1984. I loved that bike, but quickly outgrew it)
Yahama RS100 (1981-1983. Very shiny but, in a word, cr4p!)
Honda PF50 (1980-1980. By far and away the most unreliable motorcycle I've ever known. My first and last Honda! Purchased at 1400 miles, sold at 2100 after two replacement gearboxes. Went back to a bicycle, which was certainly no slower!)

Satisfyingly, the Triumphs have been not only better than any of the Japanese bikes I've owned, they also been better than any rose-tinted memories of my old bikes might have suggested...

Not necessarily the best vehicles I've ever owned, but the ones that I enjoyed most at the time (in no particular order):

The Citroen XM estate 2.5TD's
Cooper S
Triumph Sprint 900
Montego estate 1.6HL *
Suzuki GT200X5 *
FIAT 126 *
Freelander 2

* Okay, I really enjoyed them at the time, but my standards were low and I certainly wouldn't want them back now Laughing I'd rather keep the fond memories than be faced with the grim reality Rolling Eyes

Yes the Mk1 200 based on the honda ballade - saloon only. 213 Honda and 216 rover engine variaints - a stunning Vitesse too. I had a D re 216S great car..but the engine did stall on me once and refused to restart for about 10 mins..at this point I was on the M25 in single file roadworks...scary! Happy days of motoring

MKII Vauxhall Cavalier
MKII Fiesta
MKIII Fiesta
MKIII Escort
MKIV Fiesta

Then came babies so:
Renualt Scenic
Renualt Grand Scenic
Discovery 300tdi

Then came a Caravan
FL2

Would proberbly not have bought the FL2 if the Renualt Grand Scenic did not have a ridiculously low train weight.
Still have the Disco, its getting on but planning to use it for green laning.

Pre FL2, my cars (and my thoughts on them) in order that I owned them!

2009 RRS 2.7 HSE. Brilliant car, loved it to bits
2006 RRS 2.7 SE As above, but a bit lower spec, so not quite so lovely
2002 FL1 TD4 ES Hardback. Loved it, kept it 4 years, but not faultless....
1999 FL1 1.8 XEi. My first green oval. Thirsty but fun
1994 Golf GTI Mk III. Heavy and slow (Company Car)
1990 Golf GTI MKII big bumper. Awesome car (company car)
1988 Rover 216 SE Efi. Victor Meldrew special, but went like a rocket.
1992 Vauxhall Nova SRI. Fun but no brakes (Company Car)
1990 Ford Fiesta 1.6S - Crude and cheap. (company car)
1988 Golf Mk II 1.3. First company car. Slow and reliable
1985 Ford Orion 1.6D. Slow, crude and hateful
1982 Triumph Acclaim HL cheap and dull
1976 Mini CLubman Estate. Loved this. My 'student car' Had it 4.5 years and could mend it!
1971 Vauxhall Viva HC. Slow rust bucket, ex fleet car from my dad's employer - thanks dad!

I've also bought these cars for my wife (note the 'hot' hatch theme running through this lot, not that SWMBO has any interest in 'performance')
2007 Mini Cooper S JCW (My toy, absolute blast, but eats oil and fuel)
2000 Ford Puma 1.7. Best car for the money. Never went wrong and cheap as chips
1998 Fiat Seicento Sporting. Fun for buttons
1995 Fiat Cinquento Sporting. Bought it instead of a Mini Cooper 'cos it had five gears, but not a bad car
1991 Rover Metro 1.6 GTI. Over engined and unreliable. Went like stink went it worked......

United States 2008 LR2 i6 SE Auto Whistler White

Wow, some very cool car histories in this thread!

Mine is in my signature. As one of the younger guys on here (late 20s) my history isn't quite as long. We had a "spare" Mazda 323 when I was learning to drive that I used. I then "inherited" my father's Saab 900SE when he bought an Audi. The Saab was a wonderful car during the rare occasions when it wasn't in the shop for one reason or another. Confused

During my final year of college, I bought a VW Passat and kept that until December (it was at 154,000 relatively trouble-free miles) when I bought my LR2. As fuel prices are going through the roof in the U.S., the cost of SUVs are down, and I was able to get a more-than-fair deal on the LR2 with only 36K miles on the clock.

We've always been a VW/Audi family as long as I can remember. The day after I bought my LR2, my mother bought a VW Tiguan. Mr. Green CAR HISTORY
1997 Saab 900 SE 2.0 Turbo
2003 Volkswagen Passat 1.8T
