Just before the Freelander I had a series of V70 estates but, many, many moons ago, I had two of these:



Now, here's the really odd thing: There were a lot of things that I really liked about my Montego estates and there so much about the Freelander that reminds me about the Montegos, even after 20 years! From the huge glass area, the low bonnet, the ability to see the corners, the torquey motor, the upright driving position, the not banging my head on the grab handle on bumpy roads and it's hugely, hugely practical.

Heck, they even look remarkably similar from this angle!

I just hope it doesn't turn to iron oxide as quickly as the Montegos did

1973? Triumph Herald 1250 with sunroof, £25 from an auction, sold on after a year or so as I was a student and no money!
1976?, very secondhand Vauxhall Viva, vile green but lasted OK
6mth old Fiat Miafiori, saloon, great engine, shame about the bodywork (Russian steel)
3 Year old Cavalier GLS hatch, from the auction, good car
3 year old Cavalier CDI hatch, also auction, good car until near the end when the engine needed major work
1 year old Peugot 406 saloon, also auction, I liked it and my other half preferred it to:
N Reg Saab 900XS which I inherited from my dad in 2002 with about 8k on the clock. Great car, traded in for:
57 Freelander 2 SE, in Feb 2009, problem free, followed by
5mth old, ex demo 10 Freelander 2 HSE late Jan 11 with under 5k on clock. So far, touch wood, no problems
Good exercise as each car brings back memories...... nice one for dementia prevention........
JT Upgraded to an ex demo, 7 mth old, Rimini Red/Ebony Napoli Auto HSE on 28th Jan 2011, added roof rails, mudflaps and side strips.
Gone - A great 57 Plate, Auto SE, Bought Feb 2009, Roof Rails and Mudflaps added on purchase. Blue colour, anything but drug dealer black.....
