My car has Wranglers and at its 15000 mile service last week the tread depths were reported as 7-8mm everywhere! So it must depend on how you drive and on the actual tyre make quite a lot.

One of the reasons I got a FL2 was because of the hard ride on my previous car (Golf GTI) and I now have an HSE with 18" wheels and it's great for ride comfort.
 38 mpg on a 150 mile trip.
