Don't forget that you need always need fuel for an ICE. Expect fuel duty and tax to start rising when EVs become the norm as the government starts to push older ICE cars off the roads. Then more zero emission zones, then petrol stations will start to become even harder to find. I guess by 2040 any remaining FL2s will become classic cars owned by enthusiasts who normally drive EVs . 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

England 2012 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Zermatt Silver
Another new owner

I was looking to replace my 21 year old Disco2. Even the specialist garages that had maintained it told me not to buy a Disco 3 or 4 -one said that the person who designed the location of the turbo should have been made to change one every day. The Disco sport was just too expensive. I toyed with a Subaru Forester but if there are any independent repair specialists, I couldn't find them and main dealer prices are too much for me. So I decided on a manual FL2 in XS spec without a sunroof ( the Disco sunroof never stopped leaking and has put me off sunroofs forever) colour red, silver or gold with no towbar . As I wanted DAB but didn’t want an electronic handbrake that narrowed the years to 2010-2012. I started looking in July but with those requirements the hundreds of cars on autotrader and used car gurus became zero. And then naturally when the second lockdown started two cars came up. One was about 40 miles away and the other 200 miles away. Having talked to both dealers, the one furthest away seemed the better. So what to do -even absent lockdown I didn’t fancy a 200 mile trip just to test drive it . So I did what I never thought I’d do and make the second most expensive purchase you ever make without having seen it in the flesh. And so far it has not disappointed. Two things I find a little strange are that the car locks itself about 5 seconds after you drive off and the mirrors unfold even if you unlock the car just to get something out of it.

Hello and welcome. you'll find many ex D2 ownerrs on this forum, Thumbs Up
the door locking is all to do with safety, I do believe this can be disabled,
With the mirrors I do tend to fold mine in manually if I do that they stay in until I
unfold them, I also believe these to can be allterd in the CCFiles.

You can adjust the timing for door locking via the dashboard menu & turn it off, well at least MY13 & later.

Hold the left & right mirror buttons together will close the mirrors & open, which we need to do for our narrow garage.

Download the workshop service manual for the car, it is very handy, even if you still get your mechanic to maintain the car. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Morning all, just got a Silver 2010 face-lift SD4 GS auto.
Great forum, already found out about the steering wheel covers on ebay to hide the mess of the standard one and will be trying out my stiching skills soon Smile

2012 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black
Hello to the Freelander community

Hi all, I have recently purchased a black LHD 2012 HSE for our holiday home. I have read with interest some of the posts and can’t wait to get started with upgrading as you guys make it sound so easy - which I hope it is as I am not the best with a spanner in my hand!!

You all seem very knowledgeable and friendly and I am sure I will be asking some very basic questions but please bear with me as I learn on the job. Obviously, I will search any queries first as I am positive all my questions will have all been asked before.

Thanks

Hi, I've lurking on here for a while and as I have just bought a FR2 I thought I would say hello. The forum looks great with plenty of info.
I have managed to buy a Metropolis model with 60k on the clock from a main agent, is there anything i should be asking the dealer to sort before I collect?
I'm aware of problems with the Haldex unit but there are so many threads on this subject it's a bit confusing is it relevant on a 2014 model or do I need to check if the unit has been rectified or serviced?
I'll be looking to do a bit off off roading in this car as I've wanted a Landrover for many years, my dad had an old series three lwb when I was a lad and I drove it around for a couple of years, great times Thumbs Up
Cheers for now

Chris

France 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Santorini Black

Hi all,

I've just joined the community by buying a Freelander 2 2.2 SD4 XS automatic MY2012.

I'm verry happy with it so far.

The only thing is that I've just realised that the wheels are really big for me. I never had 19" wheels before and to me it's too onerous. I believe this will be detrimental to the comfort and the cost of replacing the tyres is quite huge compared to 17" or 18". I'm really considering replacing those rims with 17" or 18". Looking at the price of the current wheels, I believe I could get a decent price and save a bit of money by switching with 17" or 18".

Any advice or suggestion ?

Thank you,

Hi and welcome to the forum. Thumbs Up
I do like those wheels, so more than happy to swap for my 17" ones,
seriusly. I've not used 19" on the freelander but a lot of guys on here are happy with them
and no doubt someone will offer advice on a good tyre choice.

I suppose it is a fashion thing really. 17" rims and tyres will have a taller sidewall to be the same circumference as the 19" rims and tyres but will have more flex in the tyre wall so a little less bumpy over small road imperfections . Cheapness depends on whether you put ditch finders on the rims or proper tyres. The smaller 17" rims were the standard fare on the more basic Freelanders when new while the 19" and diamond turned 19" were on the more gadget laden Freelanders. I wouldn't want to swap mine for the basic small rims and no doubt if you were swapping from small to fancy large there would be a quite considerable price differential. This is just an opinion though as everyone has their own preferences as to how there car looks.
