I was with the NFU since 2001 until 2017, every year the renewal came through I had to ring up, they would then start a new policy as a new customer and save several hundred pounds.
Now bearing in mind I am in my late 50s with maximum no claims (15years) and an area not known for car theft - none to my knowledge in 30 years. the premium for business use was >£1300 on the FL2, and they wanted an extra £300ish when I "upgraded" to the Ewok.
Hence going with LV <£500 for the Ewok, <£400 for the DS.

Not saying that the NFU aren't better in the event of a claim than LV, but I never found out as I haven't had the misfortune to need to. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Pick a number, here's your renewal.
Paid around £475 last year to Admiral then at Christmas took buildings/contents with them which attracted multi-cover discount as well. The full year equivalent would have been about £135, so effectively £610 for the year. Renewal just in for £565 plus £179! Gave them a call and settled on £453 plus £156. Sorted Very Happy

I bought my father's Polo from him back in 2016. He bought it new in 1998 and despite it's age it had only covered 36K and had led a cosseted life, hence why I bought it.
Couldn't insure it for a reasonable price. Why not ?
Well I had been given several quotes between £700 and £5000 !!!
Despite always having a clean license and being continuously insured since 1995, the answer was that I was being quoted as a new driver Shocked
"But you can check your data-base and see my driving and insurance history", I said.
"Doesn't matter!", they said. "You've only ever insured Land Rovers and as such have insured through specialist Land Rover Insurers".
"So what ? I've still been insured "
"So , as you've never insured a main stream car with a mainstream insurer before, you're classed as a new driver".
"You're taking the pi55 !!, the records still show me being insured since 1995, no gaps in that insurance, no claims ever and no points ever. So really I'm being penalised for driving vehicles you muppets DON'T insure. ".
"You're classed as a new driver - take the quote, drive your car for 12 months, and next year it'll be cheaper by at least 40%."
Managed to find TPFT for £550. Asked the same question, basically got the same answer. 12 months later, that quote was £376.

New driver - You couldn't make it up Rolling with laughter

Up until about 2 years ago my wife had always been a named driver on my motor trade policy. When I decided to give it up as I had moved away from the trade I went with Admiral and took a Multicar policy. My wife`s quote for her Nissan Juke without any no claims discount and never having had a policy in her name before was £150 for full comp! I paid £350 for my Freelander HSE with business use. Come renewal time the quote had went up by about £60 which I decided I was ok with but when I phoned up just to change my payment method the guy I spoke to managed to get me discounts which brought it back down to the previous years premium without being asked! I changed the Freelander about a month after renewal and had to pay an extra £35 when I bought the DS which was worth over twice what the Freelander was! Confused

Shocked Shocked Shocked
If you had proof of no claims that shouldn't be an issue... the only time 'experience' is questioned is if you're going from say a standard car to a left hand drive, or high performance, or a 1.2L to a 5L for example... unless you were starting from scratch with NCD? but if you go to a specialist broker like ourselves then a lot of our insurers can mirror your NCD from another vehicle you own or offer an introductory discount based on your NCD elsewhere. Bow down

It pays to shop around using the common search engines - I've find identical insurance for 22% less than my renewal quote - so down to £231 this year. Thumbs Up

Being retired, over 60, clean licences, full NCD and not in a heavy crime zone helps too. Laughing Jules

That time again . . . moved cover to Admiral a few years ago when I first bought the Freelander. Subsequent year I was offered a decent deal on their combined car/home contents and buildings cover. Following year I managed to knock it all down again to a combined £608 and then received the £25 Covid rebate a few months back. Renewal arrived this year £641 (454 plus 187). Gave them a call, any chance of a review on that? After five minutes going through all the details ended up with car cover at £313 and home/contents £165 so a grand saving of £163, 25% on renewal quote.
All in, a happy bunny

Just got my Freelander 2 insurance renewal reduced by £33 to £226 after calling them. Very Happy

It is always worth a phone call to see if you can get a further discount,
and not just let it renew by itself. Very Happy

I always call, but nevertheless was staggered to have reduce it by £160! If she had said £50, I'd have bitten her arm off Laughing

My insurance with Privilege has also come down significantly, £310 last year to £235 this.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the requirement for Insurance companies to price existing policy holders the same as new ones ? MY13 HSE Lux Santorini Black
