United Kingdom 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Izmir Blue

Had phone call from dealer this morning. They have decided to strip the clutch down when the car goes in next week. Remember there are never problems, just new challenges

Ben watching this thread very closely ,I have a 08 td4 s manual and when I accelerate up but slowly when I am in 3rd gear let's say at about 1500rpm the car makes a noise like there's a loose part in the car and
Theres vibration on the gear stick,so far my car has been in for a total of 2 weeks, just got a call this afternoon after them having it all week and they want it or another week...how long can they keep looking its really annoying as the 60 plate sd4 auto courtesy car is just drinking the diesel its costing me a fortune... Big Cry

Had phone call fro dealer on Friday. They have stripped clutch down and clutch is not not worn but there are signs of slipping and they have reported back to Land Rover. Dealer has another customer with exactly the same problem. They think it is a weak diaphragm spring that is allowing the clutch to slip when the turbo kicks in. Should get car back Monday evening so should know then if diagnosis is correct. Will report back as soon as I know further. Remember there are never problems, just new challenges

Hope this helps others with the problem. Remember there are never problems, just new challenges

Mine is going in tomorrow for new DMF/clutch. It's been slipping.
Not good for only 26k miles.
Anyone know if the new parts have been modified to prevent the same happening again? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

My dealer seems to think there are the odd few clutches that have a weak diaphragm spring. Remember there are never problems, just new challenges

It's strange that your dealer thinks there are a 'few'.
I'd have thought they'd be all the same until modified, if they even were.
Or was it a known problem and a 'few' slipped through the net?

Thanks for your reply, but i'm still bemused Neutral Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I think what he is saying is that some clutches have springs that are not up to spec as it is not happenning on all cars. It was interesting that when the clutch was stripped down, although there were signs of the clutch slipping it was not worn, which suggests that at maximum torque, when the problem occurs, the clutch spring is not providing enough clamping force Remember there are never problems, just new challenges

Yep, that's what they've over at the Pug 4007 forum.
Maybe the weak springs prevent the auto adjuster doing it's job.
But there are reports of the DMF with too much play.

I'm going to ask for the 'old bits' back for inspection. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

It may not seem that it's happening on all cars, depends how you drive it. Some owners could be blissfully unaware that there is a problem. For example, those who live in very rural areas like me. I only noticed it when i drove on a dual carriageway Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Luckily mine was just inside guarantee period.

Pegleg, I think you may have a valid point, because it does seem to appear at motorway/dual carriageway speeds and then only when accelerating under load i.e. uphill. So is the diaphragm spring too weak and is that why the SD4 whith its extra power only comes in automatic? Remember there are never problems, just new challenges
