Re: Poss flat battery?

Update. Finally got her started, had to use some heavy duty jump leads. When running, battery charging at around 14v, alt good. So new battery required. Will replace it tomorrow. Landy has now gone.

Have you disconnected the battery form the car?
If so, at under 10v, it's discharged.
Even 12v isn't very good.......

When running expect to see 13.5/14v at around 2k rpm or so. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Pegleg,
No battery was still on car, showing 9.3v, prior to starting or not starting Laughing When car running, was at around 14v. Never had a battery die on me that quickly, especially in the summer.
Cheers. Landy has now gone.

Re: Poss flat battery?

Replaced battery, bought it locally with a 3 years warranty.
All seems good. Charging at 14.3v on tick over. Without engine ruinning, new battery at 12.97v. Landy has now gone.

Further battery & charging info

Whilst taking the old battery out, I noticed some battery acid on the bottom of the tray. Suspecting that the old battery had boiled over.
I have now checked the new battery charging levels, seems to be at 14.3v.
Is it possible that the old battery had boiled over, due to it breaking down? As I was under the impression batteries generally boil over, if over charging occurs.
Thanks. Landy has now gone.

Check the charging voltage at 2000rpm it may be higher than at idle ,if the regulator is not functioning correctly.
Alternatively the battery casing may have a hairline crack allowing electrolyte to leak out and hence battery failure.

johnlr2,
Deff no hairline crack. I think it occured from the over flow. I will check the voltage at 2000rpm tonight. At tick over it's 14.3v, compared it with my Astra, at 14.4v.
Thanks for your reply. Landy has now gone.

There should be a breather pipe attached to the front of the battery that would direct any overflow to the ground.

BossBob,
The overflow pipe was tucked in at the side of the battery & tray. End was at the bottom of the tray. Landy has now gone.

johnlr2,
Checked it at 2000rpm, was at 14.43v, 14.3v at tick over Thumbs Up So hopefully was a battery failure, rather than car fault. Landy has now gone.
