I have been a member for a month or so now but have not posted a hello before. I bought a 2011 SD4 HSE with 118k miles from a local garage I know and and trust. It's in lago grey with black interior and is in fine fettle I think. I have done a few things so far:

Replace front armrest covers
Thicker high level brake light seal
Gearbox full flush at specialist
New battery
Wash, wax and polish with Bilt Hamber speed wax a few times...
Genuine rubber boot mat
Key refurb by RRUK, highly recommended!

There are few more bits and pieces to do as always but will try and keep it sensible. Only problem is my wife has the Ebay and Amazon apps on her phone aswell  so get notifications when I buy things! I can however buy from Powerful uk and use my own email for correspondence....

Oh, almost forgot, I also changed the main interior and boot bulbs to LED.
Love Freel2 and all the (worldwide) contributors it has, top job!
I am based in East Devon and have previously had CRVs, a BMW X1 and a Series 2A many years ago. Of all the car brands, like many, I have an irrational attachment to Land Rovers. Maybe not irrational, but certainly emotional!
It is strange how when you have a car you start seeing more of them on the roads locally and round here the roads have many LR products on them, mainly older ones, but all look loved.

Hello again! I am going down the rabbit hole of buying things I think I need...new silver side vents from Powerfuluk, half height dog guard, new boot struts (QH QTS828378 from ebay and are perfect). Hope everyone has a good Christmas, if I don't post again before!

England 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black

Long time lurker, first time Freelander2 owner.....

Finally bought one at the weekend!

Our battered of FL1 was starting to show its age and I've been looking for a replacement. It's mostly going to be the dog bus, get me around and about when I'm shooting and some light trailer towing duties. My Merc excels at none of these things, being a C300 coupe Laughing

Been looking for a while and spotted a 59 plate HSE Auto in Santorini, 141k on the clock, at a price that gave me room for any work that needed doing. On Saturday I double-masked and jumped on a train from down here in rural Dorset up to Stafford (5 hours....) to meet the owner. Split ticketing and first class tickets meant I avoided being locked in a plague carriage with all the school-age kids, and daily lateral flow will tell me if I survived.

Previous owner and I had already gone over all the key bits before I headed up - it's had the IRD/PTU done, rear diff, wheel bearings, haldex and so on. Drove back without drama (apart from needing to take out the aftermarket HIDs at Halfords and replace with normal bulbs) and after a bit of playing with the seat it very much felt like the mini L322 I was hoping for.

Also stopped near Leicester to pick up a genuine dog guard *with all the fittings!* I'd spotted on FB Marketplace, which was handy.

In at my mate's garage for a gearbox flush this morning, I'll likely be replacing most of the suspension bushes, springs and shocks in the next few weeks as it was did wallow a bit and will be getting tired on the original ones.

A couple of pics from the owner's ad

Jury is out on the lightbar. Definitely useful, I burst out laughing when I turned it on once I got home, but aesthetically a little challenging (and wind noise). I may look at moving it a little further back along the roof and raising it a fraction. It's a curved one, and as it's currently placed it sits closer to the roof at the middle and creates a lot of buffeting, plus the brackets are a stainless "L" that causes a bit of a howl. Current driveway contents:

Sounds great, lovely write-up! Well done on getting a preloved guard "with all the fixings", not often you see that. Hope all goes well 👍

Hi NoDo$h,

Actually thinking of fitting a light bar like that but onto roof rail cross bar. What make is that one and how is the power cable routed?
I assume light output is great?

I'm not sure on make, it was already on the car when I bought it at the weekend. I'm going to be taking it off at some point in the next week to reconsider how it's mounted (likely using a roof bar) and will see if I can see a make on there.

The previous owner fitted a switch inboard of the main light switch next to the steering column. As installed it's a simple fused 12v supply to activate the relay so you can take that from any ign.live circuit. That goes through the bulhead and over to the near side where a relay has been mounted behind the battery.

Relay gets a pos. feed direct from battery, and the switched trigger from the switch. Live from relay and earth from battery in a twin core cable is feed out by the trim behind the bonnet, under the windscreen surround rubber and pops out where the roof rail trim meets the screen. If you clean under that rubber (it will be full of green slime and grit) and put some soapy water down there it's very easy to run a cable through there.

As wired, it is wholly independent of any main vehicle lighting, so ideal for use when setting up camp or similar. If I were using it to supplement main beam I would take a switched feed from the main beam circuit to the switch on the dash - so the switch is only active when main beam is on and you can decide if it's main and lightbar or just main.

Light output is hilarious. I shall take a pic or two this evening, set the phone to manual exposure to give a better idea. It's more flood than spot so if you want to supplement your driving lights I would look at other makes, but for offroad use / under 30mph and for setting up camp or stationary incident management lighting it's perfect. Current driveway contents:

Happy with the wiring just curious as to route used to get the power to the light bar.

Yup, wiring just sits under the rubber on the NS A pillar directly next to the screen. I'll take some pics in the morning.

I just nipped through the ford by my place and up the track through the forest and took the following pics for beam comparison.

Full beam (H11 Projector + H7 reflector)

Full beam and light bar

I set the phone to manual exposure, locking it to match the correct exposure for dipped beam for all three pics so you can see the real difference.

I'll see if I can find any manufacturer markings or if not, contact the guy I bought the car from to see if he has a link anywhere. Current driveway contents:

@bobupndown as promised, photos of the cable routing.

Sorry about the rotation - they appear fine when opened on phone and on pc, but the forum gallery doesn't like them for some reason. Tried rotating in gallery and that didn't work either.

I've taken the bar off for the moment. If I refit it I'll likely set up a dedicated supply board in the boot and run any aux lighting cabling from there as I'm not 100% keen on how the cable has force the screen rubber and the roof trim out of shape. Current driveway contents:
