United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Bali Blue

^^^^yeah done by some spotty faced apprentice , been there, didn’t realise for a few weeks that they had 🤬up the air filter fixings , and also had the cheek to change for washer fluid that was already topped up .

I wouldn't trust a LR dealer to do a proper job of anything if im honest, and I also wouldn't buy from their overpriced approved scheme. Shame really as we all love the brand that much but its lets down everytime by shocking dealer sales and support

on a personal note, my change down from D4 to a Kia is a massive step down, but its a decent financial one at the moment. My D4 was an amazing beast of a Land Rover. luxury, practicality, versatility and everything else you could think of. But it had cost me a not unexpected £2k in 18 months of ownership just on routine maintenance (bearing in mind I bought it at 98k miles and sold it at 113 miles), I was happy with that (or as happy you can be Laughing ) but with crank and inlet manifold failure anxiety and £600 a year tax to only have driven 6k miles in a year, averaging 18mpg instead of 34mpg pre lockdown and with more low miles on the horizon it just didn't make sense anymore. im sad to see it go in many respects but also relieved now. Ive had my fun Very Happy

The Kia is actually not a bad motor, and the dealer support and costs are excellent so far (2 year service pack for £389 which I buy into later this year ) its fairly decent to drive, nippy and handles well, and £50 at the pumps lasts me a month with an average of 38mpg on local trips only.

Its no Freelander for sure, nothing can compare in the same size bracket IMO, but its still a decent everyday SUV with every gadget as standard and 4 years free warranty remaining.

If/when I go back into a green oval motor it will likely be a DS Auto, but I don't want the all be it reliable 2.2 SD4 early one as its EU5, and I also don't want the early 2.0 TD4 with all its problems.

When it comes to the DS
The early 2.2 are sought after for mechanical reliability, but there were some issues with body creaks.
The early 2.0 (we had a 2016) were initially a right pain (adblue) until the software was sorted, some seem to be having steering rack issues (as was the FL2 initially) which are being fixed on an as-is basis even out of warranty.
Ours is a 2019 (68 plate) software is finally sorted, ours had balance shaft bearing problems, there is a modified shaft/bearing assembly that seems to have cured the issue, only done 20k in the last 15 months which is a fraction of my usual mileage.
New ones are MHEV, do you really want to be a LR tester?

Most importantly ignore the 21,000 mile service interval, change the oil and filter every 10-12k just like the FL2. When you do an oil change, fill to midway up the dipstick and by 10k it will be up to the max mark, time for a change again. That said the 68 plate D240 doesn't raise the oil level like the D180 did. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

It's completely worthless IMHO.
I'd rather have maintenance done by an enthusiast/ DIYer than any main dealer. You wouldn't believe the bad workmanship and bodges I found on my 1 owner, D3 which had only ever been serviced at the same LR dealer. It was shockingly bad, so I don't think much of the dealer ability or honesty myself. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. My daily driver.

I would rather eat my own Censored than let a main dealer work on my car/motorcycle, they just don't give a monkeys and view the service departments as a necessary evil instead of an integral part of the business, Its all about selling cars/bikes not looking after them !

when I first got my D4 I knew it was due the belts being done, searched around and the Land Rover 3+ scheme was about the same price as an Indy, as was their B service so due to convenience I booked into them for a 2 day job.

2 days after getting the car back it had to be recovered back to them rattling like a bag of spanners. They claimed it was a defective bolt in the HPFP belt tensioner that had snapped. They had the car a further 10 days, I suspect with body off, and fixed it at no cost to me.

my local trusted indy rang 2 local LR dealers and asked them what belts were done on the 3+ pricing scheme and both said only the front main cam belts. My invoice showed both belts had been done at the 3+ prices but we strongly suspect only the front was and they blagged the rear belt.

I had a dealer do a main service on my FL1, some years ago. On collection I read the invoice, it showed a replacement air filter. I asked the service manager if I could have the old one, that had been removed, back. He asked "Why". to which I explained it was a K&N filter !!!!
He did tell me the computer automatically allocates all necessary parts to the invoice for that service.
As it happens the dealer/engineer had not replaced the K&N air filter, the 'paper' filter was deducted from my invoice.

when it comes to the FL2 dealer serviced doesn't actually make sense unless you are confident in that particular dealership - there are very good and dreadful dealerships.
A one make specialist makes far more sense, trust me they will still ask the apprentice to do the mundane service work, but at least the guy checking his work is usually both an enthusiast and knowledgeable. These guys also live and die by their hard earned reputation.
The specialist may not be as up to date as the dealership when it comes to the newest models, it generally takes 2-3years for them to get their hands on them, again FL2 is well within their scope.

If on the other hand you have a DS that is in or just out of warranty, then dealer service history comes in handy should you want a warranty claim or good will gesture towards a failed component. You can always do additional servicing at home eg oil changes or filter changes - some moron decided that an air filter should last 40k! Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Accountant vs. Actuary:

Main diff below Very Happy

The primary difference between an actuary and an accountant is that actuaries predict the financial impact of events that may or may not occur in the future, whereas accountants deal with the financial impact of events that have already occurred.

When they work together, we are screwed. Thumbs Up

An actuary is someone who´d rather be completely wrong than approximately right.

An actuary is one who, if you´re drowning in a pond twenty feet offshore will throw you an eleven foot rope and point out that he´s meeting you MORE than half-way.

Add nausea. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Genuinely thought actuary was an American accountant - and if I have upset any actuaries by that statement - good Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

I have found this HSE which I am going to look at & possibly buy, looks very nice in the pictures but will need to see it obviously. £15490 with 62000 miles. Does that price seem about right.
