If memory serves, you can get the DPF deleted along with the EGR on the later models by using software. I fell lucky with mine being an 09 GS, it didn't need the software EGR delete as the blanking plate didn't throw up a MIL. And again as an 09, it hasn't got a DPF either.

So from this thread, if you run a late model Freelander with a DPF, you cannot blank it?

I was told by a LR assist guy that my 63 reg F2 TD4 could not have the egr valve blanked off, something to do with from 2012 I think if blanked off some signal that is needed will not be present so goes into limp?

I really should have questioned him more, but he said up until 2012 (I think) it was ok, after that not ok.

I blanked off EGRs in late models ( 2012 and 2013) Freelanders and a 2013 2.2 Evoque without issues.
All these cars have DPF fitted

LR guy didn't mention DPF, so maybe just a software mod required?

South Africa 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Indus Silver

I have a 2013 SD4 Auto and attempted to blank the EGR (no DPF). Results were as follows:

1 Installed full blanking plate - no power below 2000 then a surge of power from 2,000
2 Removed blanking plate - vehicle as normal i.e. pulls cleanly from 1,300
3 Drilled 6mm hole in plate & reinstalled blanking plate - no power below 1,800
4 Drilled 9mm hole in plate & reinstalled blanking plate - no power below 1,600 and slight hesitation around 1,500
5 Removed blanking plate - vehicle as normal i.e. pulls cleanly from 1,300

It may be that with (later model ?) SD4s one has to remap the ECU to remove the EGR and retain lower rev torque. One thing that was also clear from the above testing was that the amount of soot on the blanking plate after a 15min test drive was surprising i.e. the blanking plate would help keep the engine cleaner.

Hope this helps.

England 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 Dynamic Auto Fuji White

I have just fitted the EGR blanking plate on my 2013 Freelander TD4 without any issues, I used the one with the hole pre drilled so I guess that technically it is a restrictor rather than a full blank
No issues whatsoever with fault code readings etc and the engine performs impeccably at all revs.
I can't comment as to the improvement as yet in all honesty but knowing there is far less carbon being fed back through the engine satisfies me.
I will repost as to any difference in both fuel consumption figures and performance if anyone is interested

Ok, so I fitted an EGR blanking plate, no hole, to my MY10 no DPF.

Since then mg has dropped by 3-4 MPG. Not what I expected.

No error codes on ECU.

Anyone else seen this?

Going to remove and see if recovers. Will update. Andy

Took the blanking plate off yesterday, as I intend to fit it to the next car. When out today there is a noticeable
difference in performance. Less responsive, noticeable flat spot, down 2mpg, engine noisier. Only been fitted a
fortnight and badly sooted up. So they do work! Thumbs Up 2013 Dynamic Santorini black

Hi I note your pole I'e 80/20 for fitting can we do it by the age of the freelander as that seems to be the main factor.

Have run with blank for about a year/10,000 miles. No apparent benefit. Now removed. No noticeable difference.

Would not expect difference IF the EGR is working properly. If the valve sticks open then there is a marked decline in performance, which a blank will correct. When I blanked the EGR on my TD5 I found that the engine took longer to warm up - this might account for poorer MPG if you do short journeys. The difference in performance on my TD5 was massive, but clearly there was a problem with the EGR on that engine. I was beginning to suspect similar on my SD4 (top speed down from 130 to around 115) but didn't investigate further as I traded it in. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Understood. However, I don't have a driveway long enough to do 115 MPH in. Whistle
