Thanks, I plan to do it without a pump, but will fill the new filter with deisel via a syringe and pipe.
So the two top connectors can be attached beforehand...

Just to clarify...
When you fill the new filter via the white "from tank" port do you then wait for the fuel to exit at the "to HP pump' Port before you attach these two connectors? ... |

I have the same experience - changed a flat roadsid twice in 40yrs of driving. However, I wouldn't dream of going out without a spare tyre, the 'peice of mind' is priceless..
