This morning I was helping out one of my sons and his working buddy to take some steelwork to an engineering shop in Glossop and on the way there we were talking about 4x4's and I reminisced about my 1st a Ford Maverick 2.4 Aspen SWB in Glossy Black .
Bought it 2yrs old in 96 and it performed very well in a bad winter here , I moved it on after a couple of yrs , as we left the Industrial estate and passing a line of parked cars I was delighted see the Maverick now 19 yrs old , although it was now matt black .
Just thinking if I had kept it what might I have saved in car purchases

My first (legal) car was a 1965 Austin 1100 in beige. Then I had a series of Fords - Escorts mk1-6, Cortinas mk1 - 5 (favourite was a mk2 Lotus closely followed by a 1600E), MK 3 Orion injection Ghia, an Austin J4 van (AKA the passion wagon!), an Anglia van, a Fiesta van, a Suzuki Rascal van, a Honda Acty van, a HA Viva van, Landrover short wheelbase 1954 model, MK1 Mini, Reliant Robin (side valve engine!), a Fiesta MK 1 1100 & Mk2 XR2 and Mk6 zetec, dozens and dozens of Anglias (I used to race them), Austin Wesminsters, Consul 375, Zodiac mk4, Capri 2000S, Corsair 1500GT and 2000E, 3.8S type Jag, 4.2 Jag, 4.2 Daimler, Vauxhall Victor FD and FE VX4/90, Cavalier SRI, Focus Titanium, a couple of TDI Golfs and my Freelander. Those are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head at the moment.

A reg Fiesta Pop Plus - gutless and rusty but never went wrong.
B reg Fiesta XR2 - lots of niggles but fun to drive.
C reg Citroen BX - heap of - only thing that didn't fail was the trick suspension!
G reg Granada Scorpio 2.9i - loved this car but rusted to pieces gradually and got too expensive to keep getting welded.
R reg Mondeo LX TD- reliable, functional but boring.
53 reg Passat TDI 150 - great car to drive....comfortable and stupidly quick if necessary.
07 reg FL2 XS - first LR - loved it despite rear diff problem and repeatedly replacing N/S/R wheel bearing...liked it so much I bought my current one:
