Possible new turbo??

Hi all,

I have been told that I need a new turbo, I do believe the garage but want to make sure before spending £1300. I had a sudden drop in power yesterday like it missed a gear! Now when under hard acceleration or up hill it makes a (hard to describe) air poping sound. I have looked at many threads and the sound has always been on the car but very slight and not often. Now on system check it has the reduced engine warning which clears when cranking and I have a error code P2562 (turbocharger boost control position sensor a circuit)

What would you do? The garage has checked the hoses and test drove it..

Would you get a second opinion at a dealer, if so what do they charge for trouble shooting?

Just worried it gets a new turbo and it's not the fault, the garage has come recommended on here and the service they provided today was fantastic.

Any thoughts please.

Fault codes should be telling you this. Did your garage read them? Lots of failed hoses. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

thanks for the reply

yes they did read the code and then put on to another test machine, which they said measured the power and the noise was only happening when it had a drop in pressure ie gear change (ok when it gets to third its an automatic) or deceleration, he said the arm was sticking but it cannot be replaced on its own and needed a full turbo.

At £1300 minimum you may be best trading it on. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Well thanks for the opinion, at the moment that is not an option.

Does anybody know a figure of the cost for a diagnostic at a dealership?

I can't help you with the technical stuff but you might try another independent LR specialist for a second opinion before 'trading it on'.

There is a wealth of knowledge here and someone with knowledge of these things, Alex Pescaru springs to mind but there are others, will no doubt be along soon and be able to give you a better idea of what to do next.

Call me what you like, but 'trading on' with a fault is a Censored thing to do....

As far as the Turbo problems go, get a second opinion then maybe get it fixed rather than buy new- if that's an option. Only dead fish go with the flow

Anybody buying the car would notice the issue anyway. I would not do that to anybody, bought a bodged car before that had a turbo fault and it annoyed me

Whatever mate. The 'principle' being that selling any vehicle on with a known fault and passing on the problem to another poor sap is a Censored thing to do.

I hope you get your Turbo problem sorted Cool

With all due respect Gapster I was the one that raised an option is to TRADE in a vehicle when a repair cost is high. The word was TRADE not SELL. Nothing underhand in doing that as the DEALER taking in your car moves on his vehicle you want and the DEALER then prepares your TRADED in vehicle at COST to a high standard to sell to the next satisfied customer. Having worked in the trade when young I prepared cars for the used car showrooms and we had satisfied customers not SAPS. What costs you retail £1,300 would be half that for the dealer TO CORRECT so as an option TRADING in is a normal business option to give satisfaction to everyone concerned. I trust you also noted I also suggested getting a repaired turbo that included a 2 year guarantee and that is a tool were a dealer can sell on a very well prepared vehicle that has been TRADED in.

Yorky. No need to "respect" anything about me mate 😎, it's just my opinion. Frankly, I have little to no respect for most of the main dealers, or 'cowboy garages', or occasionally the 'private seller' that often seem to take advantage of the 'non-mechanically-minded' client to sell them a pile of rubbish. I wouldn't trust them to fix a car properly that has a fault before selling it on - who'd have thought I would remain a cynical skeptic for so long...

Obviously something with a major fault like a non-working turbo would have to be fixed to be 'sellable' but my initial point remains. It's a rotten thing to do to 'sell on' your car when it has a known problem and is 'hidden' from the purchaser.

Apologies if the word Censored offended anyone, I didn't realise it came into the category of bad language.

Again, I hope the OP manages to get a fix without having to take out a second mortgage

It is a family forum, as we have been told before, while the word isn't that bad it only encourages others to try and see what they can get away with,

Yes there are the cowboys and a lot more since I left the trade all those many years ago to add to list of others to be put against the wall to be shot when I become president.

I will start with:
Estate Agents.
Divorce Solicitors.
