Carnoch thanks for all the info, I have fitted mine today.

I have also fitted the ipod connection and blue tooth for my phone.

The ipod connection is really good as the ipod hides away in the glove box getting charged while I can choose music and videos from the touch screen.

A freelander 2 with 18,000 songs built in must be the biggest (and fastest) ipod ever!

I am planning to install the system you have described but will add some components.
I plan to add parking sensors with visualization on screen and reverse back-up camera.
Do you have any suggestions on these items. What is the viewing angle of your camera?
Could you post some pictures of what is seen through the camera?

Hi, multi apologies, I really have been tied up, but with Christmas approaching, I'll catch up shortly and answer any questions. All I'd say is that the Kenwood Satnav on the FL2 backfired on me yesterday, I was at a stealers ordering a very cheap 2009MY Discovery, a choice of the GS, in black of course, as if there is any other colour, with plus pack, cruise control etc or the XS in black with leather and satnav. £3700 difference between the two and my dear wife went for the GS on the basis the leather had perforations in it and that if the kids puked, it would get stuck in them and secondly, I could install a Satnav on the Discovery! I even made her sit in the XS, but no luck. She told me we could get a new suite for the family room with what we'd saved. Get it the end of the month. I think she only agreed to the thing so we dont run up any more miles on her FL2. Talk about cutting my own throat!

Do you think one would be able to install this in a FL2 S with no prior satnav already installed?
Did'n want to pay the extra for an outdated navigation system myself but this solutiion looks really clean.

Was thinking of installing one 2-din bay otherwise.

should fit in the S just fine the retro fit needs nothing from the car except a power suppy

I did install the same modules in my fl2.
It is a pretty neat installation.
I have one major problem though....The screen works only when the engine is started....nor when the ignition key is inserted , neither when the key is out of the slot.
How does you screen work?
Is there a way to make it work like the radio?

Hi, mine works when you start the vehicle. When you press the stop button after that, it remain on until the key is withdrawn. Simple enough wiring solution, fix the ignition wire of the satnav to a wire notr dependant on the ignition being switched on. Off the top of my head and without any liability, the radio feed or similar. Don't fix it to the hazard wire, which will have a constant feed and therefore drain your battery. In essence, you only really need to fit a battery wire to ensure the satnav data is kept. This only uses a very small amount of power. The said, ignition feed and an earth.

I did a fit to a new Discovery a couple of weeks back. Same thing 7" screen and 421 hard disc. The main problem there was I had to use a Dremel to cut part of the lower cubby hole on the dash, a part normally not seen as it's covered by a rubber mat. I ran a battery feed from a spade connector in the fuse box in the front passenger footwell, a live switched lead from the accessory socket, situated in the lower centre console and an earth to the metal behind the radio. The size of the cubby hole is slightly larger and it's a perfect fit, allowing access to the touch screen buttons. Only problem was I hid all the hard disc etc. in the lower glove box. Will relocate this to the centre isle once the better weather is with us. Anyway, fansatic fit.

Oh, remember to register your Kenwood on the Garmin site. I got the 2009 map updates for nothing - normally cost £80 odd each.

The thing that would concern me would be the sat nav software as having used the Land Rover sat nav i now realise how good Tomtom is to the point where i now attach my old Tomtom to the sat nav screen when going somewhere i need directions too.
