sadly mine has already shot up, and yes by 40-50%. I was with Igloo, where everyone was on a cheap variable tariff, so no fixed contract. Igloo go into receivership and my account transferred to EON. As there was no fixed contract you get put on their highest variable tariff, rather than have EON honour your existing contract. Can't transfer out of EON until Igloo transfers the balance and the account is sorted. No-one is offering anything in the way of contracts at the moment as suppliers are expecting to be able to charge an awful lot more in th very near future. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Looks as if EVs will be soon paying their fair share of tax.

Huw Merriman, the chair of the Transport Committee, said that unless the government acts now the "loss of two major sources of motor taxation will leave a £35bn black hole" in government finances.

zero road tax helps too,

Comparing the pcp of a discosport hse and an ipace, the ipace wasnt so much more per month

ipace insurance slightly more.

factor in the fueling costs and ipace total cost is cheaper /month on home charging (12000mile p.a.), obviously better if solar.

ipace is much nicer car also so thats a bonus. and the acceleration is something i cant get bored of.

charging at fast chargers would ruin the energy saving, so if thats your need probably stick to ice.

this is not factoring any taxes as mine is not a company car, and is mostly for private, so my accountant wont be able to claim it as a business expense, If she could the tax savings are huge At work

Just tell Sunak that it was a corporation swallowing the £35bn for dividends and he'll be fine and just write it off Thumbs Up Current driveway contents:

Evs will catch up on tax somehow, but until then there is money to be saved.

As a rural type i dislike high fuel duty, it penalises me unfairly as its 4 miles to the nearest shop. A mile walk to the nearest bus, that only comes once a week anyway. Such Taxes should be on things that can be avoided. Im not a town dweller driving past numerous bus stops on the way to my destination. At work

Are EVs expensive to service?
What actually is serviced? and how often?
Also as chickengeorge has indicated typically how much to ensure?

All the above are real world costs and not something average jo always considers in any vehicle never mind an EV!

Service what service
Tesla say the car doesn't need a service and only to book in if it comes up with a warning message
Legacy car makers still have a service scheduled although I am not sure what they do
Personally I think once every 2 years get the brakes stripped and cleaned (important due to not being used as much) brake fluid check and replace as needed pollen filter change and inspect suspension and high voltage cables and connectors and repair as Necessary
They are much cheaper to service
My own model S went for a service to cleveley EV I have never had it done and wanted someone who knows the cars inside out to look over it
So at 86k miles and nearly 6 years old it had
A TPMS valve re seal pollen filter and as far as parts go that was it it got an otherwise clean bill of health
Insurance has cost a little more than the diesel astra it replaced but surly that was to be expected with the price difference its still only £450 a year with 20k miles and business use

OK I meant the announcement was "today".
I can't recall ever reading the DM, but I'll admit papers of that size are handy for cleaning paint brushes etc. Laughing Jules

I guess there was always going to be a catch with cheap tariffs, as someone has to pay for it eventually.

Unfortunately it was those that lost their jobs.

Cost Of Insurance!

As my Metro approaches its 10th year (I have a 10year Extended Warranty), I have been getting a bit more serious about looking at a similarly sized, four wheel drive, PHEV or EV.

As I want to retain the high driving position, I have been looking at the Volvo T8 Twin Motor, Toyota RAV4 PHEV, and the Discovery Sport PHEV.
Unfortunately the height of the Jaguar I-Pace EV rules that out although, I was very impressed by its interior and driving experience. -The used I-Pace price is coming down quite quickly at the moment-

The problem I have is that as all these choices are expensive and fast (2 driven axles mean 2 motors) the cost of Motor Insurance for me would at least double to over £1.6k or more.

This to me has come as a shock as it is an annual ongoing cost, and would easily negate any fuel cost savings. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Perhaps the tide is changing and EV prices will come down further.

A desperate bid to kick-start electric car demand: Fiat slashes the price of its new battery vehicles as sales dive - and bosses pen open letter to minsters calling for EV incentives
