Talking of loopholes one of my sons is a geologist who lives in Ireland and will shortly be off on a business trip to Lap Land in the north of Finland. His partner's young niece heard about this and came around with her Xmas present list asking if he could deliver it to Father Xmas for her. Sounds like good COVID planning. As long as there's no more than six people in Santas Grotto when he presents that list, it shouldn't be an issue? Just needs to check the whereabouts of the little helpers Wink

Coronaviruse will NOT be taking a Xmas break,
so why change anything because of xmas?
I see Swedens herd immunity is failing now and new reistrictions
being indroduced to a maximum of 8 persons outdoors.
This is nowhere beaten.
So please all stay safe.

Without offending Christians everywhere whats the big deal about Christmas, many religions have had to cancel/curtail various religious celebrations due to covid 19 and so shall we, Turkey and over priced presents or our World health?

I happen to think that Christmas is a big deal, but as a nation we have just asked Hindus to tone down Diwali, it would be wrong at this point not to do exactly the same for Christmas festivities.

Don't get me wrong as this is very likely to be my wifes last Christmas, having all the family around for one last Christmas with all the laughter / arguments / mess that involves would be great. But how would we feel if one of us fell poorly because of it, needed hospital treatment, and took up a bed that was needed for a cancer patient !

No lets get on with beating this pandemic, and stay safe until enough people can be vaccinated to give the health services a fighting chance. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

In this country it no longer has much to do with Christianity seems to be regressing more towards the original pagan festivals, choose the one you want Roman or Norse, though the date number is the same different calendars shift the position of the shortest day, it's a celebration for all religions, alcohol consumption varies according to the religion and who you celebrate with.
When I first moved to Scotland Christmas wasn't a big deal, Hogmanay certainly was and could last for days especially if new years eve fell on a Wednesday or Thursday, 2nd of January was a public holiday most were too pxxxed to work so it finished on Sunday morning just in time for church Rolling with laughter my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

There's too many that are already disregarding the rules so calling it Christmas will make little odds. Couple it with all the uni-students coming back, meeting their mates . . . . . cannot see anything but a rise in figures in January. Common sense is still not at the top of everyone's agenda.
Someone on the radio tonight said his family all lived away and rarely saw them during the year, so what was the need to see them for a few days over Christmas and chance spreading the virus.
