Our daughter is a nursing sister specialising in elderly care, recently moved to ACP (Acute Care Practitioner). She is now working in COVID 19 wards with what she considers inadequate PPE. To protect her family I have extracted our caravan from its storage compound and set it up on her driveway so she has a “decontam” Centre with separate shower and sleeping. She is so afraid of 1: catching the virus and 2: passing it on to her family. Needless to say, but she has not been tested herself yet.....

Sad times

My Son is A&E SHD in the West Midlands presently and keeps telling us the Doctors only have one set of full PPE (cloak, mask, overshoes) and the normal gloves......although two weeks ago the nurses received their full allocation of PPE (I guess it varies from area to area) leaving the Docs begging for a mask when a C-19 comes in........they started testing last week, so getting better, and to protect the home he has set up a gazebo in the back garden so he can change and wash before going indoors.

His wife and kids 18 months and 3yr are with us since the start, it being much safer for them......hard times for everyone. Regards

David

After being in Sandwell Hospital for exactly 14 days today, the hospital have called to inform us that my father-in-law has now contracted Coronavirus while he's been there and due to his weakened state , they can no longer do anything for him. He will be moved ASAP to the nearest hospice - but the doctors think he will die before that happens due to the high demand for places.
Yet, looking out of my window, I still see selfish people in groups of 3 or four strolling around without a care in the world. Families, teens, the elderly even. There are just as many cars up and down the road as there are on any normal (do you remember normal ?) day. Most driving with their phones glued to their ears, far exceeding the 20mph limit down this road.
I've been in lockdown since day 1 as I'm in an "at risk" group. However, I just can't believe how many people are not taking this seriously.

I have a friend, (a dog walking friend) she is a hospital porter in St Georges in South London, most of our recent FB chats are about how Her whole working day is spent taking people to the mortuary. She has told me at least twice now how people get admitted and don't last beyond 3 days.

Please take this self isolating and distancing advice seriously, I sincerely believe what is being reported in the media is far from the true figures that are reported. Be safe Thumbs Up 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep

My sister has a neighbour who go to Spain for 6mths of the year during winter.
Being stuck out there, they managed to get a flight back earlier in the week, some of the last people out of that area of Spain.
On landing they passed custom and ingratiation and were free to return to their homes in the UK !!! being advised to have 14days in isolation !!! WHAT ??
No quarantine ......... just go home ....... from Spain ....... 2nd highest risk area of Europe.

Because we are nurses:
To the nurse who was fired for wearing their own mask.
To the nurse who has been told they’ll be written up for not adhering to hospital policy.
To the nurse who has been told they can trust policy because it’s based on, “CDC guidelines.”
To the nurse who has worked 4, 5, 6, 7 consecutive, 12 hour shifts.
To the nurse who hasn’t hugged or kissed their family in weeks.
To the nurse who watches some people on the outside defy social distancing recommendations.
To the nurse who now has skin breakdown from prolonged mask-use.
To the nurse who has been denied COVID- testing.
To the nurse who only sheds tears in the shower so that it can drain with the water.
To the nurse who has had no food or drink their entire shift.
To the nurse who is skilled in operating the ventilators.
To the nurse who wonders what was the point of all those ethics papers back in nursing school.
To the nurse who was told they no longer need an N95, "per the CDC."
To the nurse who must find their voice and now use their patient advocacy skills, for themselves.
To the nurse who knows deep down this is not just droplet + contact.
To the nurse who didn’t pack lunch today because their work schedule does not permit time to buy groceries.
To the nurse who searches anxiously for a new mask; they’re locked up now.
To the nurse who is thinking about putting in their resignation.
To the nurse who stands alone in their PPE next to their intubated patient, as they silently have an anxiety attack.
To the nurse who just gave themselves a Cardi-B pep-talk so they can get back out there.
To the nurse who has been told to cohort the cancer patient with the suspected COVID patient, because there’s just no more space.
To the nurse who was told they signed up for this.
To the nurse who just performed the last round of CPR on their 30-year old patient.
To the nurse who knows there are no more ventilators left and their patient will die by morning.
To the nurse who just received a lab call notifying them that their COVID patient’s blood work has hemolyzed.
To the nurse who has been made to feel like their life does not matter.
To the nurse who realizes the public did not truly know what nurses, “do,” until now.
To the nurse who is being reassured by leadership shift after shift that PPE stockpiles exist... somewhere.
To the nurse who can feel their spirit breaking.
To the nurse who is not being offered mental health support.
To the nurse rushing to don their PPE as their patient de-sats.
To the nurse being told by higher ups during huddle to abandon all they’ve ever known to be true about appropriate infection control and safety precautions.
To the nurse who muttered under their breath, “yea, but I bet you wouldn’t go in there without an N95.”
To the nurse who just wrapped themselves in a trash bag before entering the room.
To the nurse who was abandoned by the same system they dedicated their life to.
To the nurse who woke up in the middle of the night with a fever and cough.
To the nurse who has tested positive for COVID-19.
To the nurse who can no longer breathe on their own.
To the nurse who has been admitted to the ICU.
To the nurse who was just intubated by their own colleague.
To the nurse who did chest compressions on this nurse with tears streaming down their face.
To the nurse who backs away for the last time, as time of death is called.
To the nurse who has been referred to as, “just a nurse.”
To the nurse who wonders if this is how they treat, “heroes.”
I am a Nurse.
To the nurses all around the world, I feel you.
I share your pain. I have your back.
You are me. I am you. We are each other.
Let’s show them our truth. Common sense isn't very common.

No problem, got it off my daughters Facebook page, don't know where she got it from but she is a nurse, been back to work from maternity leave a week, she teaches students but it looks like she will be back on icu again as she can use all types of ventilators. Common sense isn't very common.

I know from speaking to my sister yesterday, that this is also how she is feeling. She works at the Women's hospital. But on top of all this, the thing that really upsets her is the abuse from patients who believe they are immune from the virus - despite being diagnosed as positive. Who refuse point blank to wear masks or wash their hands. Who, despite all this, then have the cheek to say they don't like her attitude because she's told them what needs to be said. Then their's the abuse from partners, who also think they can go anywhere within the wards - again without masks etc. She told me how she was threatened with violence when she asked a man not to enter without the correct protection, being told "who the f!!! are you to tell me, you're just a f!!!!! nurse , and you haven't got a clue what you're doing. I'll knock you the f!!! out you stupid bitch."
She's scared of contracting the virus, along with my niece (her daughter) who also works there.
But on top of all this, she claims she's fighting a losing battle with her superior who refuses point blank to acknowledge just how bad things are, putting the lives of the mother's and her nurses in jeopardy . A woman who refused Free pizza deliveries from Domino's throughout the crisis, understandably , in favour of her own mother baking cakes and a member of staff, who works in the isolation ward, fetching them from her. She said she couldn't see why this was a problem when my sister tackled her about it. Maybe the fact that someone who's in direct contact with Covid19 being a cake courier. You couldn't make it up !
