Autogear Box Problems - Valve Body - Solenoids

Hello my dearest friends of Freelander 2 owners...

i have few posts but always tryng to help people with the same problems that i had.

now... the Problem...

I had a wiring noise when braking, and after taking the car to good mechanics and reading the forum.. i got the bad news that i would have to change the autogear box... and it was really hard to find another gearbox.. after i found one, i changed it... but the problems didnt stop..

I started to have the problem at 2000 rpm on 3rd gear ( but not only for this gear) , that was like shaking all the car at this specific point of rotation.. on hills always doing...

So the car got back to an specialist on autogear box.. he said that the mechanic part was perfect new.. and this problem was on the Vaulve Body... more specific on the Solenoids.. i tried mixing solenoids from another gearbox that he had... but the problem continue.. and there is the fact that it cost alot of time mounting and dismounting the set...

I really like this car... but i am almost giving up of it ( Neutral ) ...

I am looking now for help with UK dealers that probably have this spare part ( Solenoids),
This is the gearbox

This is from a file about the GEAR.

I really need someone that can help me to find the parts number marked by

91
92
90
93
94
95

This is my last try fixing it... please.. if someone knows where can i find it... it would be really good.. and i will be very thankfull..

PS: Sorry for the bad english.
PS2: i ill ship this to Brazil

This box is equipped with a slip controlled torque converter clutch (TCC).
At that RPM, on third gear, during normal throttle, the TCC is starting to engage.
The shudder/shaking could be caused by a defective TCC - converter friction clutches worn/damaged...
The fact that on load - when climbing hills - is always doing it, enforce my opinion on this... Like on a manual clutch when slipping...
And the fact that makes it on several gears, not only on third, points to the TCC, not the third gear clutches/bands.
If you have at hand a second torque converter, try to replace/exchange it and see if it's doing it again...

No, that (90) is the valve that drives the TCC.
The converter is outside the box, between engine and gearbox.
Take a look at these documents:

Australia 2007 Freelander 2 i6 SE Auto Tambora Flame

I don't have any useful info. I suffered the same vibration but I fixed it by flushing the auto-fluid out.

Good luck,

My gearbox was flushed so many times that i cant say... diferent mechanics tried that first and the problem was not solved...

The guy that sold my Autogear sent me another valve body and after changed that... it still doing it.. the 2000 RPM problem... mostly on 3rd gear and on hills....

Because the hard problem about getting spare parts.. i am convinced to try a new set of Solenoids... so after that.. if the problem is not solved... i think its time to move to a full change of the TCC ( as alexpescaru sugested), that my mechanic said its ok...

now... the problem.... Does anyone knows where can i buy new solenoids for the TF-81 SC ????????

Thank you guys for sharing experience

Another thought...
Did you verified the drive halfshafts?
Or the main driveshaft?
Broken or out of balance drive/halfshafts can give those "shaking" symptoms on load....

the halfshafts are those components that connect the differentials to each wheel.
the main driveshaft is that shaft that transmit power from front to rear

search google images for a better understanding

Alex... thank you... i saw some pictures with the mechanic... and they had tested all of it first... i do trust them diagnostic... and spent some time talking with him... i found on SONNAX... a repair kit to the solenoids... and showed to him.. this can be a solution.. or even buying the new set of remanufatered solenoids... we are going to try this first..

About the TCC... its really new... he opened it and every mechanic part of the role Autogear is fine...

dorsetfreelander

I really apreciate your experience... in case of solenoids changing does not work ( and all the odds convert to it)) , i am going to show your post for them...

Thank you everyone... now it will take a little bit of time finding the sets abroad and wait the shipping... after that... i am going to post our results for best aiding freelander 2 members..

It's an intermittent error. So clear the error and drive some more.
If the error comes back, then it's a problem with one of the solenoids. Its connection or its winding.

You can't easily open the torque converter to see the status of the clutch inside it. It's a sealed component.
For sure you didn't understand which is the torque converter and it's lock-up clutch I was talking about
Below some films of what is and where is the torque converter. It's outside the box.
Anyway, I hope I was wrong and the problems were because of the solenoids. We will see.

And this is how one is opened. For sure the mechanic didn't do that.
