United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Santorini Black

I don't have any experience of this issue but from reading on the forum it seems like you've tried all the normal things.

The only thing that comes to mind is someone on here had a Haldex software fault which meant every 30 seconds or so it could be felt causing a little judder or kick. I think this was most apparent at speed.

So many posts on here saying love driving new car but so problematic. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.

Expanding on the above, as I recall it the issue was that the Haldex self-tests every 30 seconds or so, which involves momentarily locking itself. In the case in point the tyres on one axle had been replaced, making the diameters front and rear slightly different. This was enough to cause wind-up and the judder during the self-test. A software update which changed the self-test behaviour fixed the problem.

In this case, though, the judder was regular - every 30 seconds or so - not random.

If you have any remaining concerns about the EGR system, blanking plates are cheap and easy to fit!

Is the garage you're using a LR dealer or an independent?

The juddering and hiccups are definitely totally irregular but the EGR and EGR cooler are brand new so I would imagine they shouldn't still be causing a problem (I hope). The mechanic also said he cleaned the pipes that go from the EGR which were starting to congeal with nasty deposits.... . I was initially going to get the EGR blanked totally but the car was still under warranty by the RAC platinum warranty scheme but it turns out they don't really cover anything. At the time the first garage assured me that they'd make sure the job was covered but it turns out after they'd done the job and I'd payed they couldn't be bothered following it up with the RAC to claim my monies back. After that we took it to a different garage to get it diagnosed and they said the EGR cooler needed replacing but it should have been done with the EGR its self.
We have been to Land Rover in Kendal and a technician drove the car but only on twisty A roads so he didn't feel the judder, unfortunately there weren't any motorways or duel carriageways close enough for us to test it on but he did say when he was driving it it felt perfect. All apart from a slight vibration though a bearing at 50mph as the gear changed but that shouldn't cause the judder at speed. He said it was a common fault with the fr2 but it was only just starting to become apparent. The original two garages were both independent.

Hello. Would you describe the judder as, if your accelerating (any gear) then it is like someone turns a switch to the engine off and on very quickly and then it carries on as normal??
If so then I had this problem with my FLII (2007 HSE) and took it to a LR Specialist (Not Main Dealer) and they upgraded the ECU firmware and gave the Fuel system a thorough clean using an additive and it cured it.

Hi and thanks for the follow up, it mostly happens around 70ish mph but sometimes it can happen above 50 but never below. It never seems to kick in when we're picking up speed but more so when we're maintaining a steady or constant speed.
I would describe it as a momentary loss of power and then it kicks in again but it feels like it happens for a brief milli second but 3 or 4 times in quick succession.

From my experience of a Haldex software fault, it could be where you should look. Not the same, but sooo similar in many ways - at speed, grab, grab, grab through the transmission. http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic19396.html

Thanks Bob, I did read though your post but I quashed the idea when it was happening every 30seconds. It does sound similar apart from the regularity of it happening. I might remove the FB6 fuse and give it a go. Do you know if this will cause any damage to the transmission if I drive with the Haldex disengaged? It's booked into a Land Rover specialist in a couple of weeks but if can give him something to go at that would be brilliant!

Cheers
Simon

Hi Simon. I was not advised removing the fuse would harm the transmission but I did not know for sure. Otherwise, if we had a Haldex failure we could just pull the fuse and drive without it Question . Certainly worth a test run though!

NB. I see both our cars are the same build year - a possible link there? Mine was first reg Sept 09. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

I have this intermittent problem on my manual MY2011 TD4, funny thing is my wife who drives it much more than me claims to have never noticed it but she noticed it the other day when I was driving Confused Does anyone know if a Bluefin remap fixes it?

Fairly toasty today. 23 degrees where I was. Sitting at roundabout, saw a space open up, put the foot down. Car slowly rolled onto the carriageway. My heart almost exploded. Then so did the turbo and off we went. My foot was to the floor before anything more than pathetic happened.

Have I just had the dreaded hesitation fault? Manual 2011MY TD4. Learned to drive in 2011.

No not the same issue.

The faults mentioned above are also different.

Symptoms appear between 1600/1900 rpm on hot days (above 17c) with light accelarating for me.
Feels like the car misfuels stutters then carries on normally.
I feel that it is a fuel map/software issue but nobody seems to have come up with a solid fix

2011 Freelander 2 SD4 S Auto Barolo Black

Hello,

i have the same problem with my Freelander 2 2011 Auto.

When the ambient temperature gets above 14 °C the car sometimes stutters when accelerating (for example on an intersection or at the traffic lights).

I have asked two LR dealers in germany last year.
They have searched the Topix database but they can´t find any solution.
The car had no related errors logged.

Is there a fix available for this problem?

In august i have the next yearly service.
It would be great when i can give them some information to get the problem solved.

greets from germany
Sebastian

2011 Freelander 2 SD4 S Auto Barolo Black

Hello Ryan,

As i wrote in my previous post i had the car at two authorized LR dealers to fix the problem last year.
Both of them were unable to locate the fault. Crying or Very sad

My car is out of warranty, so i am looking for some hints what the possible fault can cause the stuttering problem.
I think the mentioned diagnosis will not be free of charge.

So i first want to collect some information about the possible reasons for that problem before i will bring the car to a dealer to do the yearly maintenance in august.

For me it seems that a lot of customers have the same problem that the car stutters while accelerating if the ambient temperatur is above a specific value.
I have found the same discussions in a german Landrover forum.

If there is a LR internal document for this issue please let me know.
Then i can give this information to my LR dealer.

Thanks a lot and best regards
Sebastian
