Thanks Scarecrow,

I will see how FL goes…..will post accordingly…..

From my experience I think if anyone has a similar problem it’s best to just have a good look at this T/C hose………best to remove it to have a good look…comes off easily…it’s the hose connected to the throttle valve……..goes to plastic pipe to intercooler……the hose on my FL had gone ‘soggy’….new one very tough.
The electronic control seems to be that sensitive that it can detect the slightest leak on turbo pressure- side………..the split on the hose was tiny……….very difficult to see……
I was thinking…….in the old days we had things like a turbo- boost gauge……& a voltmeter on the dash…
so much easier to see something amiss……..having said that a decent code reader is a Godsend.

Hi everyone interested,

Update from last post 5 weeks ago….from S. France….

We returned to Oxfordshire leaving 24deg temperatures a week ago……car ran ok…..fully loaded as normal.
Occasional stutter but nothing to worry about………certainly not like before replacing sensors & T/C hose.
Once north of Paris no stutter at all…..temperature 17ish…….then to Calais & return to Blighty…..to Oxfordshire………860 mls without problem…….no hesitation, stutter at all……..
Now temperature around 10deg……….car runs great…..I’ve tried to coax it to stutter….(light throttle take-up at 50-60 mph …1500 rpm ) but it won’t……..
Seems bizzare : no posts on subject for 5 weeks….is it due to the return to cooler temps….. ?
If so…..what is the problem……? As I have mentioned many times…..can’t understand why a temp rise to above 20deg C can cause a problem………….
Otherwise car ok…….needed 2 new front tyres for MOT…14/11…..Pirelli Scorpion Verde had scuffed on outside edge (front) on way back…………alignment only slightly out ……otherwise no faults.
Will keep car…..& wait & see….it’s a nice car & as we have written on recent posts ‘what to replace it with “

Hi everyone,

Thought I’d do an update on my experiences since November’24 on this subject :
Car been running great during winter…..no problems….a couple of boost-starts due to lack of use, that’s all. Mid April & temperatures increased past 20deg….the occasional “stuttering/hestitation” reappeared….usually on exiting à round-about, reapplying throttle. No big deal to me but the wife tends to panic…..I did scans with my trusty AP 200 from time to time…nothing especially worrying….the usual B100A-15 that can’t be removed & ‘lost communication with seat’ etc. As I have posted on another subject à month ago we came back to the car & couldn’t open it….had to use key on LH door to gain entry.
Battery completely dead…..Exide that was replaced Jan ‘24….managed to start no problem with booster.
Fitted a new Varta F19 85Ah/800CCA….left it unused for a week to test for system drain…started perfectly with 12.7v before starting. A bit annoyed with Exide battery but supplier agreed to take back under warranty……

Good news is : Since fitting new battery no hesitation / stuttering…..despite temperatures high 30’s for last 10 days…..!!!
I can’t explain it……..haven’t said anything to the wife………hope this update doesn’t put the ‘Voodoo’ on it. FL2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto MY 2012— current

United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Santorini Black

Good afternoon everybody. My name's Barry, and I'm new to this forum.
I was driven to join because I see I'm far from alone in suffering from throttle response problems with my Metropolis.
The car has done 95k miles and has been fine (apart from the normal door locking issues) until about a year ago when my wife reported a lack of response when pulling away from a standstill, after having been stuck in a traffic queue. This didn't recur, so I put it down to a momentary glitch.
However, the problem has now become increasingly persistent as the weather has warmed-up and is now a regular, if still intermittent feature.
As reported by others, no fault codes have been recorded, and apart from the hesitation, the car performs normally - no black smoke, normal fuel consumption, no unusual noises.
Near breaking-point came recently when my go-to diagnostics expert and I were sitting in the car with his Autel screen on his knee in the passenger's seat. We were stationary, with my foot flat to the floor and going nowhere, while the Autel told us nothing was wrong! I had to disagree!
I've tried various re-sets to the TPS, and because the coolant temperature was showing a slightly low reading at 78°, we swapped the thermostat. Also the software has been updated.
Because when the car is on the move, the problem subsides, I decided to see what happens when leaving the bonnet open to allow the heat to escape, and it does improve. There's a heat-soak problem somewhere, but the effect is so profound I don't understand why no fault code is registered.
Even though I think I know the answer, I have to ask if anyone has come close to a plausible solution?
Many thanks.

Hi Barry,

As you can see from my previous posts above I have had a similar problem……
Is the car auto…..SD4….? A few contributors have had a similar problem to you….no response on pulling away…….nearly always with autobox……
It seems strange that no fault codes have been flagged…….
Thé most strange thing, as you wrote is that you were in the car with the Autel connected & you floored the throttle with no response or DTC……!
I have never experienced this fault…..but it suggests throttle pedal assy problem…….or crankshaft position sensor …..or auto g/box problem…..from previous posts on this forum…….although I haven’t had a problem with thèse items myself.
It’s a bit difficult without any fault codes being logged……..would be interesting to do a live-data road test.
What do you think is the problem….?
As I have written lots of times…..they are strange motors……!
Best of luck…Pete FL2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto MY 2012— current

Hi OxonPete,
Thanks for your prompt response. The car is an SD4 automatic, and as I said, apart from the hesitation, which probably lasts for two or three seconds whilst the car gathers a bit of speed through torque converter drag, there are no other issues.
Two experts have looked at it, but so far with no clear ideas, and I could easily throw my wallet at it, changing this and that with no result.
I'm guessing a heat issue is causing the breakdown of an ageing component, we just have to locate it.
We'll keep trying, and when successful will broadcast the reason.
Thanks again.
