I was advised not to buy the leather factory fitted but to have the seats covered by a specialist.

Yours could be a common problem as he seems to do good business.

Don't DPF's (Diesel Particulate Filters?) emit more CO2 gasses than cars fitted with plain exhaust systems?

Sounds like a backwards step to make them compulsory or is diesel fuel really so dirty?
