Unfortunately there is no known cure, speaking from eight years of trying and getting so called experts involved . Dealers haven’t a clue .

I thought the Freelander 2 went into limp home mode so you could safely stop, then the engine shuts down before it runs dry to prevent damage and will not restart till fuel is added.

The problem is usually that the plunger that springs up to lock the flap is sticking . Force the flap open ,taking care not to break It of course , plenty of WD40 and wiggling and all will be ok .
