Fitting an Android head unit

Powerful UK have posted a video on You Tube showing the fitting of a Android head unit.

This may be of use to anyone who wants to fit a Sat Nav system and other goodies.

I think that they are selling this as a kit for the FL2 on their website, they will be doing further videos on how to use the system.

There’s a lengthy (12 pages) thread on this just below yours - https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic30709.html

It looks to be the same unit and I see there’s now an Android 10 version.

Each to their own but I definitely fancy getting one as a much better way of hooking up my iPhone for music than using a Bluetooth adapter at the AUX IN. Plus an up to date sat nav capability via Google or the App of your choice on your phone. Plus rear view camera screen. What’s not to like?

For pre facelift models: Better navigation apps (TomTom, copilot, Google maps, Waze, et Al), speed camera warnings, Spotify, TPMS, Reversing camera. Have DAB on car audio so don't need but is an option. Easier to fit than trying to get android tablet to fit (my opinion). Andy

so is the model he is fitting XTRONS PA77DLRPL ? If so, I can only find this item on ebay . . . . .a place in china, which I would avoid, seems to have all the wiring he has in the video https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7-Android-10-0-...%7Ciid%3A1

does anyone know of any UK suppliers ?

Here is a question for anyone with bang up to date tech, if you have a unit like this, and can access google maps and the internet, do you have to link your usage to your phone deal? I am guessing its not totally free as you travel along ?? Or is it? 2017 SEAT Ateca 4drive 2.0 xcellence (May 2022 -

I suspect it’s probably only available via eBay or direct from Xtrons. They do have a UK website but that doesn’t mean much. I’d rather buy with PayPal via eBay than direct. At least I’d feel I would have some comeback if it never turned up.

To have internet access you’re going to need it connected to your phone or else use the 4G dongle and supply a SIM card for it.

Thanks, Northcroft. For info, Xtrons sell on eBay - see https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7-Android-10-0-...3560383353 - and would seem to offer better prices there than via their website. They claim on their eBay ad that the item is posted from within the U.K. so there shouldn’t be any concerns about import duty and taxes.

I suspect there’s always an element of risk in purchases like this but there’s perhaps a little bit of additional security using eBay rather than just buying direct. But a risk nonetheless. But it is tempting ... Very Happy

Hello, Been trying to fit this unit having seen the video. PA70DLRL. I have a Freelander 2 S with just the cubby hole. All connections seem to go together everything seemed to slot back in nicely but press on button on original radio-nothing. So back through to check connections etc, seems ok still nothing. Checked radio fuse (N0 6? under glove box. OK. So disconnected every thing put back to original, turn on radio and nothing! so everything else on central console fine just radio not working Any ideas? other fuses? Specific fault codes to look for? Cheers

I didn't think I'd like this, but it actually looks really nice and has none of the downsides of trying to replace the whole head unit. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
