Hi brethren, I have an SD4 2.2 in auto use and I'm only getting 27mpg on shortish journeys but only 32mpg on longer runs. It is the 190hp engine. I am wondering if a remap would be a good use of funds or is this normal fuel economy

Your mpg sounds about right (for a 2 ton automatic 4x4 brick with minimal aerodynamics)

You can get a remap which will give you a marginal increase, but I am not sure if you will ever recover the cost of the remap with the increased MPG.

have not reset the trip for over 1800 miles and mpg is showing 35.8

and it never goes on a motorway all country road stuff

 .
my first ever FL2 and I did keep it longer than most other cars!
But its now gone way up Norf

I did the same test as this car on the Nullarbor & other flat straight roads & had similar results with my car. 90 to 140kph doubles fuel usage. A tailwind verses a headwind at 90kph I have had 7.8L/100km - 12.5L/100km. The Nullarbor is the idea place for testing this. A lot of grey nomads stop driving for the day when there are strong headwinds.

Our courtesy car (SD4) is mapped

Recently away to Oban with a customer, he achieved 37.5mpg

I drove down South in January, 330 miles each way, and returned 41 mpg, on cruise at 75-80mph

If its driven really gently, I've coaxed 53.6mpg out of it

We regularly got 40 to 41 mpg on a journey from North west of Glasgow to Dover, needing only to stop for lunch, no fuel. We then refilled in France, the mpg then dropped to 38 mpg for the rest of the holiday, French fuel or air temperature? The cruise setting was the same, the car wasvsomewhat heavier on the return journey  my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I bought my 2012 Freelander in Sydney two years ago and drove the Nullarbor across to Perth. What a great trip. And the car just loved it. 6 cylinders so as someone on here said you don't buy a Freelander for economy.

My car uses petrol, nevertheless, crossing the Nullarbor with 500kg payload, second spare wheel, fuel, sand tracks, awning & solar panels on roof.

Fuel economy in perspective.

How many km do you do a year? If you increase efficiency from X to Y how many litres do you save over a year.

10,000 km at 10L/100km = 1000 litres. Let say you try to be about 10% more efficient.

I have just surprised myself with (for me) a very good mpg.

Since filling up a couple of days ago, I have clocked 106 miles at 38.6 mpg with an average speed of 51 mph.

I take it that this achievement was because the weather is mild, but no air-conditioning is needed, and I cruised easily at 65 mph indicated along motorways and A-roads. Traffic was moderate and local knowledge kept me moving in the holiday traffic.

From previous measurements I know the real figures are about 36-37 mpg and I had set my cruise control at 62 mph as indicated on my GPS Sat Nav.

The sad thing is that as I run around the local shops, etc. the economy will drop to the 32.5 mpg at an average speed of 33 mph as indicated on my trip B which has been running since I bought the car some 32K miles ago. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
