Mass air flow recalibration

My 2011 diesel 125,000 miles, had a failing noisy alternator so I had the local garage replace the alternator and whilst they had the car replace the timing belt and water pump as I had no idea of its replacement history.

On getting back the car they had obviously disconnected the battery as i need to put the clock time back.
Anyway i do not use the car every day but started to notice it was missing a beat every now and then normally when accelerating in lower gear. I like a twit thought it may just sort itself out so it’s now too late to take issue with the garage, No error or codes appear on the car.

After googling, I suspected the MAF sensor so the other day purchased a second had one that matched the part numbers on mine. It has improved the situation but not totally solved the problem, but now think it needs a recalibration.

I have an old windows laptop if I purchased the JLR SDD as per link below is it easy to do an air recalibration? if for no other reason that to eliminate it as the fault. Or will the car do one itself if i disconnect the battery for say 30minutes.

if the SDD is required would someone be so kind as to posts instructions on how to use iit, thank you.

You should have some fault codes stored…….
Without DTCs you are just guessing……
I had a similar problem last year…….but with the help of AP200 & some advice from this forum it’s solved .
I had MAF/MAP possible fault codes showing……..sent for new sensors…OE….MAF was faulty unit…MAP improved things ….but turbo hose to throttle housing was problem…. very common fault.
Check DTCs first. FL2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto MY 2012— current

I have checked DTC codes permanent and temporary there are none, as I say changing the MAF sensor has improved the situation.

Was hoping the JLR SDD would give me more information and the ability to recalibrate the airflow.

It only misses a beat then drives on as normal until it repeats.

it was running perfectly until alternator changed and timing belt replaced.

What did you use as a code reader…?

Why did you assume the MAF was at fault…… ?

As far as I know thé MAF doesn’t need calibration……

As an aside I bought the SDD Mongoose kit earlier in the year but found that it won’t work on my HP W11

Laptop………even though it was advertised that it was compatible …….a bit annoying… FL2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto MY 2012— current

After sending my reply just…….I thought…since thé problem is only since repair work …..it may be possible that it’s to do with the crankshaft position sensor or wiring…..that would have been disturbed during work on cam belt. Another common problem….well documented on this forum. Would have expected DTC would be logged though.

used xtool anyscan AM30M, but will try again, ASAP, nothing appears on the car display suggesting a problem either.

Will take a look at the crankshaft position sensor.

thanks.

Good idea to check cranksft position sensor………
So many posts on subject………..like a lot of posts..I read them then can never retrieve the article.

I looked at your link on AMZ…..similar to the kit I bought from Smart-Parts…..I sent complaint saying site said W11 was compatible & wanted refund…….no response……..! Waste of time & money……
At least with Amazon you can return no problem……. FL2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto MY 2012— current

Apparently from much searching on line thé kit I bought from SmartParts.uk will work ok….it’s genuine in JLR box……is the biz….but will only work on older laptops W7….or specifically Panasonic Toughbook…
My beef was / is that they say on website that fully compatible with lots of later Windows….
Have a look……it is a bit bizzare…..
I didn’t want to buy a Toughbook just for SDD in case it didn’t work…I’ll stick with my trusty Autel AP200 !
For the price it’s a great bit of kit…….picked up DTCs that my Lynx / Autologic had missed for years. FL2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto MY 2012— current

Have you tried running SDD on a W7 in a virtual machine running on your W11?

No Bob….I wouldn’t know how to do that…….the actual technology can be difficult enough…!

Will ask our son ….see if he knows…..!

Edit 23.45…… I remember seeing something about this…running a virtual program inside another

computer…..could have one of your posts……I didn’t follow it up…..after having the aggro with the

Installation………getting to the end only to be told “ Not Compatible “. FL2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto MY 2012— current
