haldex noise

Haldex noise.
I have removed the fuse from the boot area. The graunchy noise goes away.
Am I best to remove the fuse if I want to continue using, until I get a chance to sort it ?
Thanks in advance.

I would.
Graunchy noise- bad
No graunchy noise - better Laughing

Bell Engineering are the Haldex gurus Jules

Thanks Jules. Thats my thinking, because it is quite noisy. I believe that will just put me in @ wheel drive. As its the summer ! Hopefully, I won't need 4wd until the winter comes.
Bell, did my diff, but they are quite a distance away. I had a quick look on eBay and found a new haled. Item number eBay Item No. 154716385789. I wonder if that would be a bolt off, bolt on job ?

I am not sure that just removing the fuse is a good long term fix.

Why not talk it over with Bell Engineering, because it may effect other stability systems. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Sorry for the delay in coming back. Computer issues. Not done a lot of miles, but I have left the fuse out. Going to do a bit of research and see if I can give the Halex a decent service. If that don't work, then I will at least know that the halex may need some more serious work.

I had to remove my fuse until I could get it done by Bell, I had the full works on the haldex but it does not come with a guarantee.
The haldex improved quite a bit only scrabbling when giving it beans hard left or right from standstill,
The scabbling I get now might be normal I don’t know.

The manual says that the Haldex (Active On-Demand Coupling) relaxes when you apply steering angle, this is to avoid the stress between the two driven axles.
I have been in some other make 4x4s which don't decouple and suffer hard jolts when backing into parking slots.

The ability to sense the steering angle allows the coupling to be programmed to provide no torque transfer through the coupling. This prevents the coupling locking when the vehicle is maneuvring at low speeds and acute steering angles.

Active On-Demand Coupling Control

The active on-demand coupling control module has 2 operating strategies; pre-emptive and reactive.

The pre-emptive strategy anticipates and predicts the locking torque value required to minimize slip and maximize stability. Each Terrain Response program has a different threshold and input criteria for the pre-emptive strategy. For example, a higher locking torque would be applied on slippery surfaces.

The reactive strategy varies the amount of locking torque in response to the actual slip level and the dynamic behavior of the vehicle. Each Terrain Response program has a different threshold and input for the reactive strategy. The reactive strategy improves vehicle traction and composure by eliminating any wheel spin which has occurred after the pre-emptive strategy was applied. The locking response applied is applicable to the terrain program selected. For example, very sensitive on slippery surfaces to provide maximum traction and minimize surface damage.

The locking torque calculations use various signals from other sub-systems, for example, engine torque, accelerator pedal position, selected gear, steering angle, vehicle speed, lateral acceleration, yaw behavior.

The DSC function of the ABS system can override the active on-demand coupling control and reduce any applied locking torque during DSC action.

Ok a bit too much for me, I guess all of that means I shouldn’t get any scrabbling. 🙈

Unlike the earlier (FL1 for example) of Haldex(like) 4x4 solutions, which simply relied on a pump driven by the difference of velocity between the two axles, the gen 3 and 4 Haldex of the FL2 is controlled electronically from many inputs to give varying amounts of torque to the rear axle.

The actual algorithmics are not available, but we know that 4 wheel drive is preloaded up to about 20mph from stationary, but applying any steering lock modifies this.

Therefore your FL2 should not scrabble in a straight line, but may if you apply any amount of steering.

At least, that's how I read it.

Incidentally, I was encouraged by the LR Experience Instructor to use the Grass -- Traction Programme on bad rainy days to give a 'softer' response. I have found that this, plus using 'Sport Mode', does give better control on wet, winding B-Roads. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Ok got it so the scrabbling I get could be expected, but for reasons unknown to me command shift does not work, there seems to be a lack of info on command shift problems.

If you have problems with command shift I suggest you start a thread giving some details about what is wrong.
