United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Firenze Red

Had a hire car Rav4 for 2 weeks driving around South Island NZ recently. Petrol with CVT.

Pros - it did want we wanted it to do - which to be honest wasnt much.
- radar cruise control worked well

Cons - SWMBO found the bonnet corners difficult to view despite raising the seat (shes 5'2")
- quirky and irritating Sat Nav
- too much road/tyre noise
- the engine and CVT didnt seem well matched so the engine would scream up the hills - a horrid screechy sound even at only 4k RPM. Compared to the CVT/ Engine in my daughters Honda HRV I was not impressed with the Toyota

Overall impressive - there are better cars I'm sure Jules

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before but the new 2021 Ford Bronco, due out later this year, could be an interesting FL2 replacemnt for some. I say some because there's no certainty it will be built in RHD.

As the man says in the video it does resemble a Freelander (but shows a pic of an FL1 rather than FL2). A 250 hp 2.0 turbo petrol sounds good and the 2.3 turbo petrol in US even better.

Saw the Ford Bronco vid and a few others - it's very encouraging. Can't stand the Jeep Renegade, an acquaintance has one. 2013 SE TD4 in Mauritius Blue [Written off]

I agree, lots of the Ford Bronco Sport 2021 look styled on the FL2.

Not surprising as the FL2 was built with lots of Ford bits on a Ford Platform.

My daughter has just got a Renault Kadjar 1.2 Signature Nav as she needed a bigger car than her old 1 series (she now has a dog) and didn't need a diesel as most of her driving is town with only the odd longer trip.

so far I cant fault it, fully loaded with all the toys including Nav, configurable LCD dash, full pan roof, LED lights all round etc etc etc and its drives nicely and is actually quite perky for a 1.2 turbo 130bhp.... its perfect for her needs

'17 plate, FSH MD history and balance of manufacturers warranty 38k for £11.5k …. Very Happy

I believe Ford would only build a RHD Bronco ........ if JLR folds.
Otherwise there is not a market for RHD.

Shame - but you are probably correct - Japanese vehicles seem to dominate the RHD drive market outside the UK Jules

Looks like the Ford Bronco won't be coming to Europe at all for now. Although I got this info from an article a year old... so might change. Although I'm not optimistic as they'll probably do a PHEV or hybrid version. 2013 SE TD4 in Mauritius Blue [Written off]

Just noticed this today, It seems that Mitsubishi is pulling out of the UK and EU markets. Should do wonders for residual values.

Very interesting , does that affect the Mitsubishi pick-ups as well I wonder . Even if it doesn’t I’ll be crossing it off my eventual FL2 replacement list . Shame about the Bronco , Ford are building some nice vehicles these days . I’ve a look at a Mustang and a Ranger Widtrack recently . I’m getting to the age where I deserve to have a new toy . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

The various comments in the press indicate that they will be withdrawing completely after heavy financial losses and will be closing all of their dealerships. They will be selling down existing stock. This could be a real problem for owners in a few years time as access to spares and diagnostic kit will become very scarce and who will buy a new Mitsubishi now and what's the value of a 5 year warranty with no dealer network? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
