See I happen to go to a manufacturer in Manchester that sells additives to the fuel manufacturers. They sell amongst other things an invisible dye that has a distinct signature, that signature is unique to each manufacturer. They also do a test kit.
So Shell for example can go to one of their outlets, "buy" a litre of fuel and see if the outlet is actually selling their expensive fuel or a cheap copy.

Great if a customer says I filled up with your brand of fuel and it ruined my engine - just dip the tank.

Remember a few years ago when a certain supermarket was adding lots of biodiesel to their fuel and a lot of Vauxhalls died - really easy to say where the fuel came from. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Used Millers and Redex occasionally and not noticed any difference at all. My car usually runs on Tesco diesel with the odd premium drink if I need fuel when not near a Tesco branch. Again no difference noticed in performance, economy or noise.
As previous posts, regular servicing, quality engine oil and regular fuel filter changes keep it running nicely Thumbs Up

I agree with the above.

Redex, Millers etc, that you add to every tank of fuel are a waste of money.

The only fuel additive that I have found does work is called BG245E.
I must add that this additive had no obvious effect in my Freelander 2 which does not have issues anyway, maybe a bit smoother now, but......

When BG245E was used in my Mercedes V6 CLK320CDi it cleared the problem I was having with fuel starvation on hard acceleration, and it feels a much faster car now.
This was very noticeable.

An additive is not going to fix anything if you had no fault to start with.

I've been following a company called SulNOX for a while now (started by ex-world champion motorcycle racer Jim Redman and now run by his son Jimmy) and they produce a commercially available product called ElimiNOX ( https://eliminox.co.uk/index.php/products/fuel-conditioner ) which is claimed to not only remove the water and Diesel bug from your fuel tank, but also improve your MPG and reduce the NOx emissions. It's particularly recommended for vehicles older than 10 years old and classic cars. It cost about £38 per 500ml which works out about £2.30 per tankful of diesel.

Has anyone on this forum tried this product and if so, what are the results? -------------------------------------------------------------

I am in the camp of change the oil & filter, every six months what ever mileage you do, and change out the fuel filter every two years, i also twice a year drop a bottle of this into the tank spring and winter.

As i have two diesel cars FL2 and an R40 i buy the 5 pack offer.

We have used miller’s in various diesil motor over the years not for cure but in hope of prevention. We tended to use it if doing a long run /journey thinking if everything was up to temperature etc it would work better. No idea as i am no mechanic, just trying to prevent problems.

2 Stroke Oil

Hi
I had a Freelander 1 TD4, got when it was 2 years old with 20,000 miles on the clock, sold it this year with 190,000 miles on the clock. Always added 2 stroke oil when filling the tank. In all the years i had the car i had no issues with injectors and car never needed oil topping up between services. So i intend to do the same with my FL2 although my starting mileage is higher at 138,000.

One day i called at the local car parts dealer on the way home for a bottle of 2 stroke oil, i was on my Suzuki bike.
The lad on the counter asked if that was my bike, "yes" i said, he replied " its a 4 stroke you don't need to add oil" I said "i know, the 2 stroke oil is for my Landrover" "f*** me, i did'nt know Landrovers had 2 stroke engines" he replied.

Another vote for the 2 stroke camp. Not sure it does any good, but again not sure it doesn't. Does not cost a lot so what is to lose.
