United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Bali Blue

Ok guys, got the new pedal.

I ordered from LR direct, part code: LR031903 (for the auto). My model is the FL2 2011 GS SD4 AUTO.

Old pedal was an 09/2011 model. New pedal is 2019. Auto pedals are much cheaper than manual, £49 inc. delivery.

A little background:

I received car with 49k miles on it 3 weeks ago. Started making this noise as soon as I got it when accelerating from standstill. I know most say it occurs around 2k revs but if I were to accelerate up hill from standstill, the noise would occur at say 1.5k revs. Also, most say it occurs at 14C+ but i've found mine did this even at 11C. Even without the noise/hesitation issue, I did think that the auto box on this car was very sluggish and unresponsive, always shifting at the wrong times and not connected to the pedal at all. If I put my foot down there would be an excessive delay before it kicked in, and this is on the sd4 model!

Since installing the new pedal:

So far so good, no noise. Immediately just revving from standstill the new pedal is much more responsive. Taking it out for a drive, it was like a new car (and no, not an exaggeration either). It's so smooth and pleasant to drive whereas before I just wanted to get out of the thing!

Before, I noticed around 60mph if I accelerated I would get vibrations as though the box was in too high of a gear for the speed. This has gone. It picks up speed so much better than before. It actually feels like 190bhp now as opposed to 90bhp!

Below is my replacement pedal. It is literally a 3 minute job to fit, unscrew 3x 10mm bolts and unclip the sensor. I just used a regular extension with a 10mm socket attached as the ratchet was getting in the way to get the top bolt undone.

I can't believe a pedal can make such a difference in the drive. I would urge all FL2 owners 2010-2012 to replace the pedal with a newer one, especially if you have hesitation.

I will edit this post if the issue persists upon further driving.

Thanks all, saved me so much time and expensive. I can't imagine the stress this issue must have caused some of you!

Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

Pretty sure it's the LR031902 part for the 2.2 manual, £73 on LR direct.

I would personally only order from there because others did and only received new ones, e.g. my 2019 pedal. The last thing you want is to receive another faulty 2011 pedal!!

Okay, very dissapointed.

Still drives better but is now making the noise when pulling away again.

Back to the drawing board.

Interesting... Just watched video and surely can't be a coincidence. I had this noise and when they replaced Haldex ( which is what I thought was making noise ) it was still there ,back to dealers and it turned out new Haldex hadn't been primed also whilst there I mentioned the gear change jolt update which fair play they done there and then.

Bottom line..... That noise has gone.

So you had a software update at the main dealer which cured the problem?

Can't say that for sure mate as the technical stuff is not my area but hell of a coincidence !

I know some on here have had the gear jolt update from bulletin LTB00782V4 which I had done along with Haldex and noise seems to have gone, will have a drive later and see if I've just got used to it but 32 miles back from dealers think I would have heard it, usually Censored do!!.

Alright, thanks. Let me know. I hope to get the update from the main dealer if that is the case. Not sure how much it will cost though Whistle

Right just back from approximate 70 mile trip from Cardigan to Aberystwyth and back anyone who knows the road will appreciate the up down stop start manner . LR mechanic in car driving for about 10 of them.

That noise has gone and the only things that have been done is gearbox software and new Haldex pump primed but as per usual no real information off dealer as to whether one of those could cause that Censored noise Rolling Eyes

Thanks for the update. Would it have normally made that noise at the temperature it was today? Just eliminating other factors. I will enquire to the main dealer about the software update and see how much it is.

Cheers

It used to be there whatever the weather, IF I had to get a few bob on either I would say Haldex pump related as can't see how a software update would stop a mechanical sounding noise Confused

Hi All,

I see this post has been running for a while but I have just found it.

I had what I belive is the same fault on my FL - MY14 SD4 Auto one owner Full LR service history 123,000 miles

So a few miles on it but flrsh so I figured ok.

I noticed the judder within a month took it to LR main dealer who had never heard of it (surprise surprise) took a technician out and demonstrated the fault.

Thier answer was took book me in for a one hour, PAID dignostic check £105 + VAT. plus my service was due so also book in for that £350 + VAT

I did some research and suggested to them that they shouldn't be charging me to diagnose what is clearly a well documented problem.. NO JOY

SO

I "SHOCK HORROR" spoke to my normal mainteneace garage where I take my cars normally and we spoke about the issue and (abridged version) I booked it in for a FULL service to cover the LR recommened major service schedule + all the things LR don't do including the Haldex

They are quoted £350 + VAT and it ended up being £540 + VAT partly as the Haldex is a b***h BUT....

IT HAS CURED THE PROBLEM

The really interesting part was that they reckoned the Haldex had NEVER been serviced, also the condition of the engine oil, oil, air and diesel filters was also in line with the car not having been serviced for some time.
The fuel filter fastenings were corroded in place and broke on removal.

Also 16 pages of fault codes cleared (I have the print out!) as if they had never been checked (surely you clear the codes every time you check them?)

FULL MAIN DEALER HISTORY!!

SO my advice if you have this - get a full service including the Haldex
