Thanks Bobbyg. Did the damage look similar? Still trying to decide on recon engine or repair... Can get an engine for £1450 with fitting on top. Have you had your swirls blanked? |

Were the swirls flaps metal ? The ones on my 07 were plastic, anecdotal evidence seems to suggest they don't seem to do any damage if they go in, they just melt.

Think they are plastic but there is visible damage. I could chance it that the rods haven't bent and hope compression is ok. Only had the car a week! No signs up until it happening. Risks you take buying private eh?! |

Never got to see the head ,not sure if the new manifold is the old or later type.ie with or without the flaps.as my son owned the car at the time of the rebuild.one thing he did not have done at the time was the glow plugs.if it was mine at the time I would have done it.is there a part no cast in the manifold to show which one it is.if so what's the part no for the new no flaps type. |

Hi Yorky. Went to see the head today. Two valves are bent and there's a huge gap between one where the swirl flap has got wedged. Some tough plastic! Bit the bullet and ordered a remanufactured engine to be fitted later this week. Ironic how I got shot of the FL1 because it was always costing me money. This one has surpassed that in less than a month vs 5 years! |

Bit the bullet and bought it from VEGE. Hoping it's a good un. Remanufactured so has to better than the fly by night's that are all too prevalent on the net. Time will tell I guess... |

Will update you all once arrived and fitted though. Ordered an inlet manifold from LR Parts too so will give a review on that. |

I saw something like this on a Massey Ferguson X35 tractor years ago where a piston ring had broken up and somehow the bits got on top of the piston and rattled their way out of the engine and damaged the vales on the way out. It took a lot of grinding paste and an electric drill to get the valve seats smooth but it all worked OK afterwards. What does the tops of the pistons look like? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
