After showroom tax, the increase in tax take will add £775 to a buyer's costs, assuming they hand on to it for the full 5 years. I suspect this will make no real difference. Although a substantial hike in fuel prices (the return of OPEC and the collapse in the Sterling to the value of the Dollar) will.

Wait until next April for big lumps off the expensive end of the 4wd market when the big hike in road tax comes in. Whistle

I did very well on the Subaru thank you Laughing local guy price matched the best Internet deal Thumbs Up and also got 50% down 50% in 12 months, I was offered a DS at list -5% from a car broker for early delivery on a pre ordered HSE auto. Internet brokers are worth a weeks research before even walking into a showroom

I don't know if the increased taxes on cars above £40k will make a ha'porth of difference several things will happen, 1)

a whole raft of specifications will come out at £39, 999 with the ability to add "bolt on packs" after purchase so not affecting the price at first registration 2) A huge portion of vehicles over 40k go to fleet users, they will just continue to lease, but lower the the number of options that their fleet users get to specify , so as to keep the lifetime costs overall the same. 3 ) if you can afford to buy, finance or service a 50K or 60k or above vehicle you won't think twice.

The problem then comes when said 50k vehicle becomes 2 or year old vehicle and the asprational buyer is faced with the tax at rate + £310 untill it us 6 years old.

Then as Tigger says fuel costs can crucify non essential 4x4 sales , I can still remember the days of the £90 fill on the Freelander Rolling with laughter 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Freelander with a proper engine! Wifey is also quite happy to get the most out of the engine from the traffic lights, but she did have a Golf GTI in a previous life so it is no surprise!

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

Decided it was time to look for something else after 2 Freelanders and almost 6 years.
Found a good 2yr lease deal on a new VW Tiguan 2.0 150PS SEL. Comes with all the bells and whistles and is very, very nice inside & out.

Didn't want to put a lot into diesel, so decided to lease and look what's around in 2 years.

Managed to get a very good online quote for my 2013 HSE LUX via Sytner's from a link I found here. So much so, it's only been a week from the initial quote, to me agreeing a price and dropping it off at Guy Salmon later this week. Had to barter a little over £500, but the price I'm getting is £1000 better than the WBAC quote and I thought it a good time to sell.

Got to say that my latest incarnation HSE LUX has been equivalent to the best cars I've owned previously and is night and day better build quality than my first 2010 HSE. Sorry to see it go, but will look at LR/RR again in a couple of years! Thumbs Up

What exactly is a "pre order"? I have noticed this term coming into use recently. You just "order" something regardless of whether it's been made yet. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I thought a pre-order was a car specified and ordered from the factory without a buyer by a dealer on spec, then punted out to the trade if not sold within a period, some times the ordering dealer will use the expression, used to be described as a vehicle in stock. In this day and age there is no stock, just pre -orders and cancelled orders to indicate a bargain that doesn't exist. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever.

Exactly as Dartman said . A car that I didn't specify, which was not in stock at a dealer but had been ordered by one and had a very early delivery date . Dealer order ? cancelled customer or fleet order ? To be fair I had no intention of buying from a broker as the supplying dealer could have been anywhere from Aberdeen to Truro . I prefer to buy local ( last 3 Landies from same local group ) , but car broker prices do show what is possible . I spent my last 6 weeks at work searching for car prices and found that if you were in the position to pull the trigger immediately there were some great deals... 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership
