Winters are coming off next week and I need something to replace them, I still have the Wranglers from before but they're only at about 4mm so won't last long and makes sense just to get a new set.

Currently (and for the next ~4-6 months) my driving consists of 500 miles during the week on tarmac roads, then usually at the weekend it gets stuck into some moderate offroading going shooting and working the dogs.

Any suggestions? Currently on 235/65/17, not sure if going up a bit in wall height/width would get access to a better selection of tyres?

i really rate my General Grabber GT which worked well in winter, but not tried in mud

I had the Grabber AT's - great in the mud, terrible on tarmac, noisy & poor wet surface traction.

Though, they really look the part.

Good wet grip, economy and noise on the road. Not done much off road with them yet, but so far they've been very good.

Grabber AT is fine on tarmac so long as you don't drive it like a sports car!

Cooper discovery AT3's are a good all rounder in my opinion and ive ran them on two 4x4's

the general grabber AT's are EURO rated in the Wet as : F

According to the AA, The difference in stopping distance between each grade (A-G)will be one or two
car lengths when braking from 50 mph. Overall the difference in braking distance between best
and worst (A to G) will be around 30%. - Yes nearly a third!!!!!

So, going from an A or B rated tyre to an F or G has a drastic reduction
in stopping distance ( and I suspect handling ).
This is in line with my experiences of the good off road, cool / rugged looking tyres.


Now looking for an Wet A rated tyre.

The Dunlop Sport Quattmax XL looks good
Fuel C - Wet A, Noise 68Db, so a great all rounder.....

I was tempted by the GT's but after the other half got the car stuck with Wranglers I'm not sure the road weighted bias of it would go down well. Generals own site say the GT is 100% on road too..

Im going to have a look at Nokian Z SUV for my next summer tyre, very impressed with the winter I have and the Z SUV gets good reviews and good awards to its name.

thats the 17", I was looking at the 18"... 

Odd that the same tread should perform differently
