Read the whole thread and digest it, then provide your own opinions.

I have seen it all before, this thread has caused no end of arguments and unsubstantiated nonsense, we have dozens of pages of garbage we have removed from this thread, so forgive us if we see the whole thing resurrected again and make light of it, I am not saying it doesn't work, I will stay on the fence for the moment.

As for the answer you received to your initial question, the poster has done 1.5km and claimed it was amazing, that is about the level of info we have come to expect, hence our lighthearted response.

now that is good, but not sure how 2SO helped, unless it made you drive faster in case you broke down Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Tried driving at the same speed but the downhill part of the journey home seemed longer.

5 tankfuls since I started using 2SO as an additive.
Been a mixture of town and highway driving on each tankful.

The car seems smoother although I am hesitant to quantify that there is more power as this may be psychological.
It also seems marginally quieter on start up in the mornings, but again this is difficult to quantify in the absence of an SPL meter.

However, I can confirm that I am consistently getting more mileage per tankful, between 790-820km as opposed to 700-720km per tankful.

I am popping in a 5 capfuls of 2SO per tankful, or roughly a capful per division on the fuel gauge.

I've done about 2 tankfuls now. It seems to have increased efficiency... I did a round trip of 300m mainly motorway and got just over 40mpg. I've never got the Av mpg over that on any trip before - normally maybe 35-37 on a run. It was M1 south from Leeds so quite a bit of the pesky 50mph av speed driving, then 70mph where I could as per my usual style. I reset it before the trip due to my starting problem and battery resets (all too frequent). Haven't quantified any other benefits like rattle, but to me it seems a little quieter (no empirical evidence). It costs about £3.40/l for the 2SO so adds maybe £1 a tank, so costs wise any savings over about 1% is positive. And if it takes some strain off the engine I'm prepared to go with it for a bit.

I got 41mpg on my trip to wales, as you say the 50mph speed limits help, but I never went above 80

Never had a drop of 2SO near the car, just branded She'll nitro diesel, quiet and economical without the faffing about Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Bow down wish I could get that from my 07 npinks but not expecting it any time soon, & your HSE is bit better sound insulated than my old XS. I'd fancy one but hoping the discovery sport might hit the spot in the next year or 2 (will mine last that long)?

The mpg of a 2014 model v a 2007 model is an apples and pears job and just serves to make us owners of older models envious.

I have used 2SO for well over a year. My long term MPG has increased from 30mpg to 33.6mpg with the same sort of mix of mileage over the period. Is that the 2SO having an effect or just the car becoming more efficient as it loosens up from 24000 miles on the clock to 43000 miles. I don't know.

What I do know though is that the exhaust emissions opacity test results at MOT improved from 0.2 at 24000 miles to 0.06 at 37000 miles - both tests done at the same garage by the same tester. It still ain't absolute objective proof of anything but I choose to believe that it is the 2SO as I cannot think what else might make THAT difference.

I don't know what extra the additives in Shell Nitro or BP Ultimate add, or if they are able to be compared to 2SO as an additive in any way, but I do know they cost rather more than the 2SO per tankful!

I see WHICH did a 3rd party fuel additive test and comparison not so long ago and reckoned they were all pretty useless, expensive and failed to deliver what they claimed, shame they didn't test 2SO as well as some objective evidence would be good but in the meantime the subjective experiences of many folk who have actually tried it continues to be generally positive

its not all about money though,

my last tank was £1.359 per litre for nitro, normal diesel was £1.299 on the day,

50.5L @ £1.299 = £65.60
50.5L @ £1.359 = £68.63

So the difference is £3.03 per fill up, it saves my cars from been noisy and aids performance and what ever Shell say it does

For that extra £3.03 i have not had to shop round and find the cheapest possible 2SO, like a tramp looking for cig ends, then decant 250ml in to a empty bottle, then to get that bottle and pour it in the tank, making sure none of it drips down the outside on to my suit and then after all that faffing about, put diesel in on top and go pay, all for the possibility that my engine might have 0.14 less emissions and last till its got 500,000 on the odometer, even thought i'll be selling long before then, all to save £1.78 per fill (based on 4 fills @250ml per £5 litre bottle of 2so)

You can only have trade offs if there are alternatives, and not if there are none.

No pioneering spirit these days! As you say though "each to their own" perhaps its being retired that makes the difference - time rich, cash poor(ish), or just being an efficient faffer!

In my working life I once knew a chap who actually went round and collected fag ends, pinched the baccy out and sold it at a pound or two per handful. Made a fortune. The baccy was lethal and he would openly curse anyone he saw smoking filter tipped as they undermined his income as he saw it. He didn't drive a Land Rover though he could have afforded to. I always admired his entrepreneurial spirit if nothing else!
