FC or FD are higher in detergents which is partly what leads to a cleaner engine Jaguar x-type sport gone
Jaguar x-type 2.2d sport one of my best cars ever sadly gone
Freelander 2 GS auto 2008 most unreliable ever ! gladly gone

So am I correct in saying FB is mineral only and ok for non DPF? I run this in the wifes FL and all is ok, no DPF though.
FC is semi synth and cleaner but I have read it doesnt mix as good as FB and can leave residue on DPF
FD is fully synth and cleaner still and is same as FC with regards mixing and residue
Need to get the right one so not to knacker my car.......help

Hi,
not sure what has been said in this thread and not reading 92 pages Laughing
as
I have read the pages on D3 in the past and there are lots of them as well Laughing
but
ISTR I used FC on all my cars and the most common oil used was Actevo which is FC as well,
that was in TD5 D2, 2005 RRS 2.7, 2010 RRS 3.0, 2004 merc 230 which I think did have a DPF
not used in the 494

from memory Dont use full synth

if that helps any Thumbs Up

One quick addition: if we speak of 2-stroke oil to be added to the diesel fuel it MUST be a 2-stroke oil of low ash content, such as Liqui Moly No. 1052 (1 liter bottle) or Meguin semi synthetic. NEVER use fully synthetic 2-stroke oil, besides the cost).

I've run semi before, it worked (but then i don't have a DPF...), but I had slightly better results with a mineral FB grade.

Ok so I have bit the bullet and purchased 5L of jaso FC semi synth low ash 2so to try on my car with the DPF. I hope it works ,more for the cleaning of the internals pump/egr/injectors than more mpg to be honest.time will tell ,and will mix a 1-250 mix for a 50L tank which is 200ml/full tank

Important is, that those 2T-oils should comply with JASCO "FC" or ISO L-E "GC" or "GD", which should be written on the bottle. All 2T-oils as per these norms burn with an ash content of less than 0,05%.
YF

I don't have a DPF but i'd be OK with putting FC through if i did. But yeah, this is a devisive subject.

What i took away from his posts was that fully synth doesn't want to burn = more soot. Semi-Synth is still classed as 'low ash' if it's got the FC rating.

United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver

Hi all.

Interesting thread with some very useful contributions. I have spent a few hours reading pages of posts from way back when YF started it, and the last few pages but can’t help but feel I have missed a lot in the middle. One day (week?) I will read it all, but wonder if I can ask a question to help me (and perhaps other late joiners) cut to the chase.

I have recently bought my first high miler late 2010 SD4 auto. I have no idea what fuel mixes this car has been run on in the past, but there is no visible slot coming out of it, and it passed UK emissions as part of its MOT in August. None of that tells me much about what is lying inside the engine though. Most of my life I have enjoyed listening to nice sounding petrol V8’s in front or behind me, and would dearly love to evict the small men with large hammers that live under the FL2 bonnet masking the beautiful sound of the nice 4 pot diesel SD4 (ok, I am pushing it a bit there). Maybe using TSO would help achieve that it appears.

Now my issue. Advice from sadly long gone “old school” motor engineers was to avoid fuel additives that clean leggy engines as they tend to uncork problems masked by soot and buildup in the engines (it was also mentioned briefly early on this thread). I wonder if my engine and turbo is so sooted up at close to 112,000 miles that I am tempting fate adding TSO and cleaning this engine.

Any thoughts from the better informed diesel folks about my conundrum? Is 112,000 miles too late to start TSO addition and does anyone have any experience of such action please?
