Italy 2015 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Lux Manual Fuji White
I apologize for the stupid question...

I choose not to wait the DS and I ordered a HSE Lux (I'm in Italy and there's no Metropolis here even if the only difference seems to be the sunroof as an option).
The story begin on May 12th (the order date) and the dealer has scheduled the car delivery for the end of october.
He sustains the car will be in production on September.
In your opinion, is it possible or everything in Halewood is ready for the DS and there are no more Freelanders on the production line ?

Right,
well the Discovery Sport is launched on 3rd September, its a superb car, being fortunate to be at JLR, I can tell you its a great drive (I currently have a Freelander 13MY HSE) and a much better looking car than the Freelander.

yes its starting out with the DW12 engine (Due to production of the Ingenium AJ200 D Mid and High being targeted at the new X760 (XE) but tbh I have no problem with the DW12.

its going to have some surprises and delights, as the marketing team say (I will post those nearer to the 3rd, don't want to lose my job Smile )

It will have the 9 speed ZF gearbox on the auto versions.

there will be a "special" colour for the launch vehicles.
Any Freelanders now around are the end of the run, as production has stopped and Job#1 for the Discovery Sport is 13th October, so there are three run outs and its a case of the colour you get is all they have.

I am putting down my deposit in September for march 15 delivery

itds nowhere near 100 vehicles. Don't forget when they talk about this amount of miles, that is the full car, you have to add to that the various parts testing, including carry over parts, for example, the auto gear box is subjected to a DP04 test which actually takes 18 months of continuous variable gearing testing, plus testing at Nardo and Nurburgring

Interestingly, the target markets have been shown both the DS and the L462 (Discovery replacement) and both have been received with great enthusiasm. People who would not look at the D4 will buy L462 as its is a much better looking vehicle in their eyes and more modern. I'm afraid Land Rover has to survive and building cars that suit a narrow field wont give it the figures to carry on.
As for the front, this is subject to European and Californian Passenger impact requirements, the reason why all cars have the similar profile and what killed the boxy style fronts.
LR are heading for a three range module line up, Range Rover for expensive luxury vehicles, Discovery range for lifestyle vehicles and defender range for work/lifestyle uses
It cannot continue building for a small market, they are a global player now heading for 1 Million vehicle builds per annum

Some interesting information there. I personally, am looking forward to the DS and it will be our next car in a couple of years.

Timing for me is perfect as I will wait for the new engine. I agree that I have no issue with the current DW12 engine, but I fear that as the DS is produced for the first 12 months with the old engine, once the new AJ200 engine is released and then hits the used car market, residuals of the entry car with DW12 engine will suffer.

I have heard though, that the DS will have the 163ps and 200ps versions of the current engine as fitted to the Jag XF.

It has been seen many times by many manufacturers when a new car comes out with an older engine, they become less desirable when the new engine comes on line.

But I am all for the way LR are going. I like the future design language they are working to. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

Both look ~ ok. Prefer the roofline of the full size Discovery compared to the Discovery Sport. The Sport looks a bit too common (without a hint of "sportiness"). The full size Discovery still looks a bit like a Land Rover.
