SD4 FUEL CONSUMPTION

My SD4's getting simmilar to SD4Cat. Has only done 200 miles. I drive 22 miles to work out of rush hour. Around 57mph and display reads 33.5 mpg. I'd hoped to get more. Will I get more when its run in ?

Steve..... Surprised

Yea, but the oil companies will now increase the cost to us to compensate for the extra tax the chancellor just charged them, so expect it to go up more than 1p again anytime soon ..... Crying or Very sad  MY2014 SD4 XS

100 mile round trip today in my SD4 (with only 50 mile on it at start of journey) and got 40.3mpg, I would say 50% at 50mph and the rest at 70-80mph. Well pleased Thumbs Up could never get that out of my TD4 driving like an OAP!!

Off to Oxford, wonder if i can beat it?? Now - 2017 BMW X3 M Sport Carbon Black

How strange I have a courtesy sd4 GS auto and it drinks the juice compared to my td4 manual,if I am doing around 70mph I will get about 52mpg....but with this sd4 today I was only getting 39mpg and it only has 5745 miles on the clock...maybe it might get better over time...but I deffo want my manual td4 back.. Big Cry

Just got 45mpg Shocked on a run back down from the north - over a 100 miles average speed of around 50mph but doing between 50 and 80.

I normally would have got about 37mpg tops, the difference being today I had the A/C turned off (i.e. econ mode) and my sunroof open - thats a gain of 8mpg just through the aircon!!!!!

So clearly A/C has an impact - I'm just wondering if all those hyper milers out there who are achieving 40+mpg are cheating and doing it without the aircon on.. personally I normally leave it on, in fact I dont think i've ever turned it off until today!

Maybe its worth a poll - aircon or not to aircon?! Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Mine is achieved with air con off. So not great.
I was told that under 30mph its cheaper to drive with window/sunroof open. But above 30mph the drag created makes mpg worse than having air con on....

I am ever hopeful things will improve - on my last diesel (a Merc) the mpg improved as the mileage climbed.

Autos are of course thirstier than manuals but the stated extra urban 49mpg for the SD4 (which has since been revised in print to 47mpg! Hmmm...) Is way off the mark! I'd expect to easily achieve at 70mph steady a rate of 44mpg-but that's not looking likely.
Taking mine fully loaded to Pembrokeshire coast in Sept, will be interested to see what mpg is achieved then. What do I know....I'm only an Essex girl

dont forget you are driving a 2 tonne permanent four wheel drive automatic! I would be glad of anything over 30mpg!! My partners Fiesta 1.4 Zetec Petrol can only just about manage 40mpg!

Neutral Good point Shilen.

My friend' s comparatively tiny Renault Clio (54 plate) only achieved 34mpg petrol

I just wish LRover didn't print completely unrealistic mpg figures

I'd expect real world mpgs to fall short of printed figures but not by these margins What do I know....I'm only an Essex girl

SD4 Feul Consumption

Set Average MPG trip meter. Got 38mpg last night 10pm(Temp 6 deg outside /lights on) Normal drive 22 miles home from work.
Got 41mpg today (sunny warm 17deg outside /Aircon off) Going to work.
Both combined mainly out of town. Pleased with this . If Meter is accurate though. Best way to calculate is fill her up run out 3/4 of a tank, fill her up and do the sums.

But with the money saved we can afford to recharge the aircon after replacing the dried out seals. Whistle Thumbs Up and still have some left over
