For the life of me I don't understand how everyone is getting such good mileage? My last fill up (and about my average for the last 2000 miles) I averaged 17.6mpg (US)/21.1(UK). MY10 HSE Sport Limited Edition petrol automatic. Does everyone within the Motherland drive diesel?

I drive like a complete putz. I'm the slowest off the line, and frequently kick it into neutral when I see a light changing to red in the distance. Tire pressure is checked monthly, and more frequently when there are significant ambient temperature changes.

I'm hoping that my mileage will improve when/if it warms up around here. Big Cry

I believe your gasoline price in the US to be about $3.50 a US gallon at the moment? Our diesel costs around $8.60 a US gallon...

So your 17.6 mpg(US) is $0.19/mile: my 39 mpg(Imp) is $0.26/mile Trevor

I know I have no pot to wee in regarding fuel cost comparisons. I can't really compare petrol to diesel consumption either. Maybe I would be better off not keeping track of mileage. No disappointment/concern when I'm oblivious. Rolling Eyes

Wales 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Santorini Black

Went on my weekly trip to North Staffs today, 96 miles round trip.
Admitidly the A roads were slow, 50 mph most of the way.
But, 48.6 MPG!! Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I'm with you Zoey. I am the other person that bought an I6 Very Happy
I don't want to know my MPG Evil or Very Mad but I know I put in BP Ultimate 98RON in for around Oz$100 (£60) and achieve about 500KMs on the tank.

Australia 2009 Freelander 2 i6 SE Auto Santorini Black

Well AiiEEX and Zoey, a third i6 owner joins the brotherhood - if I may! Like you, ignorance is bliss as far as I'm concerned, the car will do what the car will do. However, following on from these posts and out of general interest, I did the sums on my i6 versus diesel as far as my operating experience goes, and using the Land Rover figures for diesel consumption to give a general figure. My car has done 60000kms, fuel in this part of Australia is currently $1.39 per litre for petrol and $1.47 per litre diesel. Based on my overall consumption , it's costing 15.2 cents per kilometre or $9120 in total. On the same basis , diesel would be costing 12.5 cents per litre or $7500 in total, a diesel benefit of $1620. However there is a price premium in Australia of $2000 for the diesel engine so, on this non precise summary, I'm $380 in pocket but will start losing out in around another 11000 kilometres. Of course, non of this takes account of the extra torque and extended range of the diesel nor the increased refinement and less messy refueling of the petrol, which were my reasons for going for the i6. Horses for courses I think. I should add that, on private purchases at least, we have no tax based on car emissions in Australia, different I think in Europe. My guess would be that even allowing for our lower fuel prices versus Europe, depreciation is still the biggest single cost. I'm just very glad that cars don't run on ink jet cartridges or even bottled water.

You, me, and egipp makes three Laughing I was going to do a diesel comparison, but thought it pointless being that there are no LR diesels within this Godforsaken Country.

egipp: I appreciate you putting some numbers to paper though. You've confirmed my suspicions.

if you knew how much petrol is here you would know why us brits buy diesel rather than petrol ,i think at this present moment in time it is £6.06 a gallon which at the present exchange rate is $9.83!!! ,diesel is just as expensive to buy so be glad you don't live here in the motherland!!

Cool
I do mostly motorway miles and IF i drive ultra-gently (and probably fall asleep as a result...) I can just get above 40mpg average.

Afraid I just can't drive like that so 34.2mpg will have to do! What do I know....I'm only an Essex girl
