Fitted a second earth to mine today. 33", 10mm/8mm fittings, 240 amp. From the top starter bolt (the difficult one) up & through the side of the battery box (drilled a 15mm hole with a flatbit) to the spare terminal on the earth post. Yet to try a cold start..... 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Dad got me a lead made up today 39inchs long one ends a size 6 others a 10

Just need to get around to fitting it Smile

Will be good to see if I get any difference as I don't seem to get most of the problems others do, have not noticed any HDC faults other than once ages ago

Sweden 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame

Fit the extra Earth Strap last summer and the whole last winter I never see the HDC failure.
But yesterday it flashed up in the display for a second. The started as it should and it was 2 minus out. Anybody else who had that experience.

So I have two lead options made up with correct crimps.

One is apparently a 60amp earthing strap, though it looks beefier than some of the pictures in this thread, and should take '10 times that for a few seconds' I'm reliably informed. (10mm2)

The other has a total diameter of 17mm (3/4") and is a monster which can take 'several hundred amp all day long' (70mm2)

Which do I fit?? This is what happens when you ask an industrial sparky for a bit of wire lol Rolling with laughter

I fitted the second earth lead but it hasn't made any difference to my battery drain/non starting issue unfortunately

Just re-fitted my 2012 earth strap to my new metropolis. I seem to be getting a few errors when starting up with DSC.

Is the bad earth issue still a problem for later cars ie my 2014 FL2 ? Or did JLR make a permanent change somewhere ? Jules

I was going to ask the same Jules. I have an early MY11 but as people with start stop seem to already have an extra earth I wondered if all cars now had them as they all have start stop as standard don't they?

Mine has become slow to turn over in the morning and had one HDC Fault message. Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car
"Upgraded" to Kia Sportage - hated it
Proper upgrade to FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - tailgate paint issues, fuel gauge rewire, transfer box failure at 36k miles, clutch at 60k
Reconditioned diff at 70k ish
Sold at 84k and now on a DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental

chuck...
I have a black cable going battery to bodywork on LH scuttle . Is that the "extra " cable we're talking about (top of pic).

Also AFAIK The 2014 SD4 auto does not have stop/start.

I have no idea. From reading this I think they all have 1 cable but the suggestion is to add a second.

My car, an MY11 TD4 GS has eco mode start/stop. Assumed all did since the TD4.e Learned to drive in 2011.
