The cause was found to be the transmission main bearing had failed for no apparent reason. This in turn had knocked out the torque converter and FNS driveshaft.

| "existing bolt hole" not looked yet but is there one? I sucked out the oil (a real pain!) but didnt notice a 'bolt' please expand and a photo would be good.... |

No filter or gasket... Just 'o' rings on level plug and cooler fitting into gearbox...
The gearbox contains a fine mesh filter that's sadly not a service item... |

The general advise is to replace the gearbox fluid every 60k miles....
Sorry but may not have explained correctly,,,, I didnt flush using any flushing fluid, but used the correct 3309 fluid.. ... |

Just to add :
its the lower pipe on the gearbox thats the return from the cooler...That way you flush the cooler during the process...... |
