Over the past few weeks I've noticed an increase in vibration through the car body at various speeds, gears etc.
Until today I thought it was the road surface, then it happened on a section of road I knew to be smooth and I realized something is not right.
The best way to describe it is that it feels as if I was driving over a corrugated road. It only lasts a second or two, but it's becoming more frequent.
Can anyone shed any light on this please?

Does it feel like it's coming through the steering wheel or is it the whole car that responds? Learned to drive in 2011.

Agree, check every wheel nut first.

Are the rims clean. The cylindrical face where the wheel balance weights are stuck on.

I've had dirt build up on here because the cylindrical face does not slope off enough & it gets very jumpy in the car. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

There have been previous threads about something similar and I think the presumption was a worn wheel-bearing that occasionally ends up in a position where it causes vibration. I’ve had it three or four times: you feel like you have a flat tyre, pull over and find all is well, drive off again and vibration has gone. 2005 D3 2.7 Auto

Could be a tyre problem. I had something like this a few years ago on a company car and as I wasn't paying got them to put new tyres on. The problem went away. Similarly on my last FL2 I had what I thought was a wheel bearing noise from the rear wheel which had been fitted with a new bearing only a few months earlier, the dealer agreed that it sounded like a bearing and I booked it in to be fixed. I then had a call saying that the bearing was fine and they thought it was a noisy tyre. I had two new rear tyres fitted and everything was OK. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

No luck finding the cause myself yet so the next step is to book it in with my indie, JSF4x4 in Norwich.
I’ll update this thread once I have an answer. Fingers crossed it’s nothing major, though I suspect it is.

Does it also happen under acceleration or going up a steep incline? FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Brodit active iPhone holder + Brodit dash clip,
Bluetooth Music Streaming Module.

It seems to occur under gentle acceleration, or when cruising and mostly anywhere between 30-50mph. It goes away almost instantly either by coming off the throttle or accelerating firmly. V strange. Derek Hill

My money's on the prop shaft bearings - my mate had a similar problem but it was also accompanied with some noise. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

The reason for my questioning is the D3 auto also suffers from this under those conditions.
They either need a gearbox flush to fix or failing that a new torque converter. FL2 now gone and have a couple of items left for sale:-

Had something similar on mine (an 07 model) a few months ago. As you say, it felt like I was driving on a corrugated road and it was so bad I actually stopped the car and checked all the wheels were still attached! Didn't happen again during that journey, but it gradually started to occur more frequently, until one day it got so bad, I drove it straight to the garage rather than home. In the end, it turned out to be a drive shaft joint that was short of lubrication. The fitter cleaned it out and re-greased it and its been fine ever since.

Horsemaddad can you be more specific on what joint and where on the car ?

Sound like you have a good mechanic on hand, very old school to do that.  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
