Scotland 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Buckingham Blue

I was in a pub in Aberdeen a few years ago and a guy was getting hassled by a female.
He kept ignoring her but eventually he turned to her and said "You know you're about a stroops length from a kick in the fud"

I still laugh about it now Very Happy

I am bringing this issue to life after a year.
A few days ago, the service indicator told me that I have 30 days left till next inspection. Because the car was in the showroom for about 5 months then this warning is 5 months early. So I've started to play with it.

So, for all interested, here is the procedure for reseting by yourself the service reminder:

1. Insert key in ignition.
2. Press AND HOLD the trip reset button.
3. While still pressing the trip reset button, turn on the ignition. DO NOT START THE ENGINE. Just turn the ignition on.
4. Keep pressed the trip reset button until word "Service" will flash on the instrument cluster. (about 5 seconds).
5. After a while (no more than 5 seconds) the word "Service" will remain on.
6. Release the reset button.
7. Now, by pressing the reset button, the words DIST, DATE and END are cycled on display.
8. If you want to reset the service distance, cycle until DIST is shown. If you want to reset the time-to-service, cycle until DATE is shown.
9. When the desired item is selected, press and KEEP pressed the reset button until the word RESET is shown.
Do this for both items or only for the one you desire. (I've did it only for time)
10. When you've done, cycle until END appears and then press and HOLD reset button until the display will now show the current (and newly reset) distance and time until next inspection.
11. Turn off the ignition.
12. All done!

Firstly:
Did you find out that on your own by playing just with the buttons Shocked
.........and what hapens if you press something wrong Question

Secondly:
Although it mentions it in the handbook, my service station told me the period warning (days remaining) does not work, only the remaining Km's are warned - obviously they are wrong Rolling Eyes 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

1.
I've had the experience from my last VW Passat where the procedure was somewhat identical.
And yes, just by playing with the buttons. Smile
Off-course it was somewhat a "trial and error" thing until I've shaped this procedure but I didn't break anything.
In my oppinion you can't break any electronic thing just by pressing its _user_ buttons. Yes, if it has some hidden buttons or controls that can be accessed only by dismantle something, then OK, you could ruin it, but otherwise no. You can't ruin a TV set just by pressing its remote control buttons, isn't it?
Just my philosophy which didn't allow me to break anything until now. Very Happy

2.
For sure it has the days remaining.
In fact, if you want, you can see just what values are stored at a specific moment, without modifying them (reseting them). Just follow the same procedure for entering service mode, but you skip "DIST" and "DATE" and cycle until "END" is shown and then press and _hold_ the reset button. It will exit service mode and just before that it will show you the current stored miles and time remaining.

So, just to summarize: when in service mode, selecting something is done by simple press of the reset button, activating something is done by press AND HOLD of the reset button.

Whether the cars been stood still for 5 months or not the car will still need servicing according to the service log with is one year or xxxx miles depending on country your in

after it was stood still did the dealer service it just prior to your collection and stamp the book? or was it done when it went into the show room?

If it was done 5 months earlier by not getting it serviced to schudule you could possibly just thrown your remaining warranty out the window Confused Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Are you saying that, in extremis, if a car stood still for a year in a showroom, with 0 km on the clock, it still needs its oil and filters to be changed? Shocked
It's a nonsense because that oil never worked. And any oil, if it's not used, has about 5 years warranty.
Not saying about filters which should be clean as a whistle...

Later edit:
Here what says in the Warranty benefits, page 4:

"General warranty information The Vehicle Warranty benefits start on the day that the vehicle is delivered to the first retail customer or his/her representative. Where a vehicle is purchased by an intermediary, the period of cover commences when the vehicle is handed over to that intermediary."

So I, as a first retail customer, have one year starting from the moment of purchase.

In the end, I believe that they just forgot to reset the service indicator on the moment of delivery.

But thanks anyway for the warning!
I will check with the dealer to see if it's the case...

Ha ha pinky stick that in your pipe and smoke it Cool

However the warranty on a dealer ex demo purchase ticks away as a variety of bankers, politicians and chicken farmers thrash the living daylights out of it, whilst testing it to its mechanical limits Mr. Green At work

On a new purchase the warranty starts when you take delivery like you say but just because you don't use a car doesn't mean the services can be extended Thumbs Up
