United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Santorini Black

Question for DS owners

We tow a caravan, so need a towbar and a full size spare wheel - is that combination possible?

Yes, if you have a 2.5t towbar, you get a full size spare wheel and no 3rd row of seats. It's a factory build option only.

I've done it. Despite saying I wasn't going to change yet and less than a year since I got my current freelander, it's going.

I was sucked in by Black Friday and negotiated a really good deal on a HSE Black, Corris Grey. Should arrive in a couple of weeks! Very Happy

Well done , we have ours since April and no issues apart from a puncture , done 2 600mile round trips (mainly motorway with 4 up) and all felt comfortable with the space . FL2 gone now in 2016 Discovery 4 Loire Blue .

Possible returner

Hi folks, have been away from LR for almost 3 years, having previously enjoyed my lovely D3 for 8 years. Now thinking of coming back but don't really have need for (nor can I justify cost of) a D5, so I'm considering a DS (although a late-ish model D4 might also be an option).

So my primary question is, as a private owner, is it worth the extra cost of the newer engine? I could buy new but tbh I'd prefer to keep the spend comfortably under £35k so the choice could come down to a lower spec / higher mileage 2.0, or a nicer 2.2.

Also, what real world mpg could I expect for mixed driving (don't do much urban traffic, but mostly country A roads rather than motorways).

Thanks for any input and might have more questions later!

EDIT: Just found the discosport forum so will post on there too...

Hey guys. Just need some advise here. Current fl2 is 7 yrs old and thinking of changing to DS. Should I get the 2.2 diesel or the new 2.0 ingenium engine? Thanks

Forgot to add. Current fl2 is 3.2 i6 petrol find that the 2.0 petrol DS suks.

We're in the same boat, we've got an i6 HSE that's just ticked over 50k. We've had it 2.5 years now and have been pondering the idea of changing it for a new LR product. Problem it everything is now a 4 cylinder or diesel and after having had the i6 they're all a bit disappointing. The i6 makes a lovely noise and is beautifully smooth, the new cars aren't.

To get a petrol these days you need to be looking at a Supercharged Range Rover Sport which is a much bigger car then what we want and a bit pointless when we've got 2 Range Rovers already. Sad

We might consider a DS next year and are of the same mind as you. Don't want to spend more than about £35K if poss and I personally don't want to get a diesel with addblue as they seem troublesome so if we do go for one, I'd be looking for one of the later 2.2 engine models in either a HSE or HSE LUX spec. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Opinion is polarised between the 2.0 Ingenium and the 2.2 Ford/PSA engine.

A colleague here has just done 22,000 miles in his first 5 months in a 2.2 DS and has just handed back his new 2.0 DS loan car and he hated it. He found it gutless. Another colleague drives a 2.2 XF which he likes and has recently had a 2.0 litre Ingenium XE on extended loan and he agrees with the our DS driving colleague.

I drove 2.2 engined FL2's for around 150,000 miles and loved them. I've tried the 2.0 litre Ingenium in a DS and found it bland and a little gutless but, drive it like a petrol engine and it's not too bad. It certainly needs to be revved to make up for the lack of bottom end grunt.

Having said that, most people that own them who then drive a 2.2 don't like the 2.2!

Best advice is to ignore all advice here and try them both for yourself and choose which one you like! Thumbs Up

One year into ownership with an AdBlue D4 and it's been faultless, got topped up at its first service.

In the DS though I would take the 2.2 SD4, I wasn't overly impressed with the ingenium in my Evoque loaner. For £35k you should get a good HSE, I sold my one back to the dealer for £37k (£39k new) after 6 months they sold it on for £36k, that was a year ago so you might get into a Lux but for me though the Lux wasn't worth the extra over the HSE Thumbs Up 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Indus Silver

we had a HSE Lux loan car with new engine
felt pretty down on power compared to F2 and Evoque we had previously as a loaner
the plastics inside are cheap the seats were not at all comfortable
it returned 33.1mpg for a trip across somerset.
I would not change the F2 for this offering.
auto tailgate was the best and really only feature I did like.

We need to keep CG in the manner to which he has been accustomed - RRS isn't it? Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Friend of ours came over yesterday in her 6 month old DS. It was an HSE , plus a few bits n pieces. She uses it both as a company car for her accountancy practice and a tow vehicle for her farm taking sheep and poultry to agricultural shows. She had nothing bad to say and has covered some serious mileage in it during the show season. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership
