2010 HSE just ate it's engine......advice needed.

Hi folks, come over from the Disco and FFRR forums, to ask for some advice.

Friend called me on Saturday to say oil light came on and car started to make a horrible sound. Pulled over and I got a friend to recover it.

2010 HSE auto.

Well the engine has sh*t itself, not looked properly to see what exactly has happened but when there is bits of engine block and big end shell on the undercover tray....well...say no more.

Anyway, looked around and seem to be quite a few engines on eBay, many have guarantees and listed as "can see it running" for very keen prices.
How much do you think I should expect to pay for an engine swap from a garage?

Annoyingly I could have done it for them in a long day but just sold our place with the 4 post and the engine hoist.

She is at the point where she had been looking for a newer car anyway as she replaced the steering rack, or power steering, in December and with 120k miles on it and her new job doing 20k miles a year thought something with better mpg would be a smart move.
She had been offered a decent trade in price and then this happened.

She just called and said she can't be arsed to sort it out, how much would she get as is?

I don't really know what I am asking here, I guess I want to know how much would you think she would get for it as is?

How much are they actually getting at the mo anyway? Prices are all over the place on them.

2010 HSE
Silver with black leather.
Auto
121k miles.
It was all fine until steering issue, which was sorted.
No diff noises etc.

If anyone has got any advice, it would be welcome. I get it is one of those 'depends' questions, just trying to help a friend out really.

Thanks!

Unfortunately I think she'd get very little for a FL2 with no working engine. Worth more as parts probably.

You could put the reg into WBAC website and see what you might have got if it was working. Jules

A second hand engine costs £500-£800, and takes about 5 hours to replace. There's a chap on Landyzone who was able to take his out and back in in about 3 hours, after he had various issues with the replacement.

Unfortunately a 14 year old FL2 with a failed engine isn't worth a huge amount, but someone might want it to get it running again.

Engine failure on these isn't common, I read it's about 0.1% failure in the life of the vehicle. 2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Soon to be sold.

Thanks guys.

I so wish I still had my garage, I would get this done in a day and probably cost £750 all in.

I just can't see how someone could not want to get it repaired.

2010 120k mile HSE auto LR2 has got to be worth £3950, what as is? £1000?

It’s worth what it’s worth on the day. People tend to think what would I be earning in the same time at work or working for someone, if they can earn more doing something clean, warm and easy then they will do that rather then gamble on something harder. I don’t know many people who see working on repairs as much fun, they would rather pay for something and move on. That seems to be more normal nowadays.

Don't hear of many engine failures on these.
Someone will buy it as a project but I'd say £750 is the realistic maximum she'll get for it as it stands. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Is it worth asking someone like Trent’s they pay and collect cars to break , that would give you a price to work with as who ever buys it will have to transport it away.

You haven't mentioned if it's a Td or Sd just out of interest.
