Well done it and bought the Tucson................

VW dealer did not respond despite sending chasing email requesting answers to a couple of questions Sad . Spoke to another VW dealer and he too did not follow up ( must have plenty of business)

Got a good deal from Hyundai dealer followed up with all information and arranged for me to see a car in the colour I wanted. There was no pressure and the haggling was done in a very amicable way.

He found the right model premium se in the right colour with the light interior and has added all the ' dog' type requirements plus a removable towbar

Was very open about the fact they needed to meet targets for the quarter and that was the reason for the good deal. Quite frankly the deal was good regardless IMO. About 5k less than the Tiguan which has less kit , shorter warranty and higher servicing costs ( and suspect dealers maybe )

Anyway only time will tell and maybe it will all go pear shaped

Currently driving a 4wd Golf around Slovenia. At 30c plus not much chance to see how it copes but really economical. 😀 FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

In defence of some VW dealers one of my sons bought an approved used Toureg from VW Basingstoke. A few weeks later he moved to Scotland and noticed a rattle under the car, he went in to a local VW dealer who sorted out a loose exhaust shield but insisted that it wasn't covered by warranty and charged him £45. He contacted VW Basingstoke who immediately sent him a cheque to cover the cost. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I'd happily look at any other make of 4X4 however 4 wheel drive is only one part of the equation to me.
Wading depth is just as important for me (I get caught up in flooding around our way quite often).
None of these other 4X4s seem to have a wading depth anywhere near the 50cm of the Freelander. It's one reason I'd be looking at a Disco Sport or a D4 for my next car. I have no brand snobbery so I'd happily look at Kia etc but few seem to have fording ability anywhere near the Freelander. Anyone know what other ones come close?

You are quite correct, on wading depth ,nothing compares and it is difficult to find out , neither VW or Hyundai had an answer.

I need to go through around 200mm depth of water at odd times , but nothing more, so I hope that will be OK . working on 19 inch wheels and ground clearance figures I am relatively confident !!!

With regards to the DS , which for me is just to big, my neighbour has juast bought one and it has been back twice to the dealers. I think that maybe the DS is suffering from early production woes.

I would have bought another Freelander if it was available, I have had two without any unscheduled dealer visits and was very happy with both cars.

LR just do not have a suitable car for me, regardless of price, will be sorry to see the Freelander go , but there we are

Just a warning to all those potential Hyundai buyers. Check the drivers seat comfort. The one I rented in the USA was crippling. Probably a low spec model but...........
Other than that it coped OK with the few dirt roads I threw at it (2WD!) and it was quite economical. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Is anyone else concerned as to what adding "all the dog type requirements" to a Korean car would entail? Rolling Eyes

Slightly more seriously, I'd struggle with the idea of buying a Korean car until they bring their treatment of dogs out of the dark ages. In fact, if you consider the photographs of their treatment, that's unfair; I'm not sure that the dark ages were ever that barbaric!

Many Koreans own and care for dogs as pets as well as we do, they eat a specific breed of dog and even then it is difficult to find as most Koreans dislike the idea. It's a stereotype that is bandied around and far from the truth in reality.
Their cuisine is certainly different though, live baby octopus was a challenge though Mr. Green

Dog stuff = Dog guard , boot mat with flap over bumper , protector over the bumper Smile

Point taken about Korea but car is made in Czech republic and I guess most countries have or have had ' issues '

As to seat comfort it was very very good , I suspect as its a newish model lessons may have been learnt

Having looked at the options and the fact we are off to Cyprus with a civil service posting including shipping the car, I suspect it may last 5 years, there are no ferries off the island so mileage won't be high may be a waste but the A/C is good and a sun roof for the cooler days, I think I will stick with the Freely Smile my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

My theory that all 4x4s are starting to look like estate cars on stilts is gathering more evidence. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
