notification at last

I got a letter from Landrover today about the PTC heater recall.
They actually call it safety recall and mention the posibility of fire, so prett serious eh!.
I have to ring them and get the fuse disconnected until the replacement heaters are ready next year (sometime).
Still no reply to email to dealers though.
Will keep you posted.

It's hilarious when you think about it.
A near 30 grand motor and a potentially life threatening fault.
Er...oh Censored it let's just whip the fuse out.......

Erm...winter is coming. Shocked

Well I still haven't recieved a letter from LR yet, and it's been a month since I had the work done.
Maybe they're starting at the top of the range and working their way down HSE......XS.......etc.

France 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Zermatt Silver

I received my recall P011 yesterday redirected to me whilst on holiday in France.

I have all the symptoms, flat battery on three occasions and an occasional burning smell in the cab.
As the LR dealer over here is some distance away I decided to remove the fuse F16 myself.

For safety I removed one end of the 12 Volt battery.

The fuse is located in the engine compartment fuse box but has a protection cover over six fuses F16 to F21.
This is easily removed by levering two small flat screw drivers into the securing tags forcing them lightly towards the engine.
With the cover removed the 100A fuse F16 can be seen, this has two flat metal ends with holes to fit over bolts secured with 8mm nuts.
These nuts are tricky to remove as my small socket set was too large to get into the confined space.
I managed to remove the nuts with a small 8mm angled ring spanner but progress was slow.
With the securing nuts off, the fuse was easily removed. I replaced the nuts so as to hold the bottom supply cable in place.

I would have never removed the fuse myself if a LR garage had been near but having the symptoms described
in the recall letter I felt this was the safest option as I am over here till November.

Alan.

Heater recall - be aware!

Guys - just joined this group as I am sat here waiting for a courtesy vehicle to arrive as my FL2 was took away on a low loader today!!

I received the recall letter last week and as my vehicle was already booked into the dealer to have something else sorted out I asked the dealer to sort out the recall issue at the same time.

Service from James Edwards Chester is fantastic!

However today my wife and I returned to the car which was on the car park of a local craft centre to be greeted with a car radio on?!? and a cabin full of smoke and an acrid burning smell. I didn't want a full scale blues and twos response as the car was not physcially alight but on phoning LR Assist they requested we get a fire engine response as the car was in the middle of a busy car park.

Fire brigade were fantastic. Apparently not the first time they had attended such a call involving a FL2 which is worrying. Are LR not giving this issue the gravity it deserves?!!? They disconnected the battery and looked for heat spots with a heat seeking camera. No burning detected in the engine compartment but hot spots would appear to be within the heating system around the blowers. Whilst it has to be investigated tomorrow morning by the dealer it is too much coincidence to be a fault not to be connected with the recall.

Don't know if it is related but our car has been leaking water which LR say is just from the aircon system and is normal?!? I am not technical so just accept their answer!!

Anyone who has not had their fuse disconnected should do so without delay in my opinion!!
